The Typical Martial Arts School Has 3 Times the Google Reviews, but a Quarter Have 9 or Fewer

The typical martial arts school in Diib's data has 75 Google reviews, three times the typical business. But a quarter of schools have 9 or fewer, so the gap within the industry is wide.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

If you run a martial arts school, your students are likely to leave strong reviews, but whether they do depends a lot on the school. Schools at the low end of the range are being compared with competitors that have ten times the social proof.

Martial arts schools tend to build loyal communities of students and parents, and that shows up in their Google reviews. The typical school has far more than the typical business, though the spread inside the industry is wide.

The measure here is the total number of Google reviews on a business’s Google Business Profile.

What the data shows

  • More reviews. Across 67 martial arts businesses with a connected Google profile, the median was 75 reviews. Across roughly 16,900 profiles in all industries, it was 25.
  • Top-tier ratings. The median martial arts rating was a full 5.0 stars, against 4.9 overall.
  • Two groups. A quarter of martial arts schools had 9 reviews or fewer, while the top quarter had 131 or more.

What this does and doesn’t tell you

These figures are aggregated from Google Business Profiles connected to Diib, with review counts as of late October 2026. The industry group is small, so treat the exact ratio as a rough guide. The data doesn’t show how long each school has been open, how many students it has, or whether it asks for reviews.

What it does show is a big gap within the industry. A parent comparing schools nearby may see one with a handful of reviews next to one with well over a hundred, both rated close to five stars.

YOUR NEXT STEP

One action worth taking

Pick a natural moment, like a belt promotion or the end of a trial month, and send students or parents your direct Google review link that day. Make it a standing step every time someone moves up a rank.
