Google Search Console Now Shows Traffic From Image Searches Like Google Lens
A new "Multimodal" filter in Search Console, announced September 24, shows which of your pages get visitors from people who search with a photo instead of typing.
Search that starts with a photo has been invisible in your reports until now. Search Console can now show whether image searches are sending people to your site and which pages they land on, even though it won't show what they searched for.
What Google announced
On September 24, 2026, Google added a “Multimodal” filter to the Performance report in Google Search Console, its free tool for seeing how your website performs in Google Search. The filter separates out visits that start with an image instead of typed words, including:
- Google Lens (pointing a phone camera at something)
- Circle to Search on Android phones
- Uploading a photo to Google Search
- Chrome’s right-click “Search this image”
It appears under the Web search type and is also coming to Search Console’s report on AI-generated results. Google is rolling it out gradually, so not every account will see it right away.
What you’ll see, and what you won’t
You’ll see which pages got clicks and impressions from image searches, broken down by country and device. You won’t see search terms. Google says that “because multimodal searches mostly use images rather than text, specific text query data isn’t available for this traffic.” You also won’t see which photo someone searched with.
Why it matters for small businesses
People increasingly search by snapping a picture of a product, a plant, a part or a storefront. Until now, that traffic was mixed in with everything else. If you sell physical products, run a shop with a distinctive storefront, or publish lots of original photos, this is the first direct look at whether image search is sending you customers.
