Cleaning Company Websites Have About 40% Fewer Sites Linking to Them

The typical cleaning company website in Diib's data has 69 other websites linking to it, compared with 118 for other websites. Cleaning sites also rank for fewer Google searches, even though their Google reviews are excellent.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

Cleaning companies have the customer reputation but not the web presence to match. Fewer sites linking to them and fewer ranking keywords suggest many are less visible in search than their reviews would earn.

Cleaning businesses tend to earn great word of mouth. Diib’s data shows that reputation isn’t carrying over to the web in one important way: other websites aren’t linking to them.

A backlink is a link from another website to yours. Google treats links from other sites, especially relevant local ones, as one sign that a business is real and trusted. What matters most is how many different websites link to you, not the raw number of links.

What the data shows

Diib compared each website’s most recent backlink and keyword readings since April 2026:

  • The median cleaning services website (about 2,300 sites) had 69 different websites linking to it. The median across about 269,000 other websites was 118. That puts cleaning sites about 40% behind.
  • The median cleaning site ranked for 12 Google keywords, versus 17 for other websites.
  • Reputation isn’t the problem. Among the 308 cleaning businesses with connected Google reviews, the median rating was 4.95 stars, and 78% were rated 4.8 or higher, versus 69% of other businesses.

What this does and doesn’t tell you

This is aggregated Diib data. Backlink counts come from third-party crawlers and vary between providers, so they’re best used for comparison rather than as exact totals. The data shows a gap in links and keywords, not that the link gap causes the keyword gap. Many factors affect rankings.

Still, the pattern is consistent: cleaning companies are well reviewed by customers but less visible to the rest of the web. That’s a gap many of them can close with relationships they already have.
