Only About 1 in 5 Visits to Accounting Firm Websites Comes From a Phone

For the typical accounting firm in Diib's data, 21% of website visits came from mobile phones, about half the 41% share seen across other industries.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

About four in five visits to accounting firm websites come from computers rather than phones, a much higher share than most small business sites see. If yours was designed and tested only on a phone, the experience most of your visitors actually get may have been overlooked.

“Mobile-first” is standard website advice, and for most small businesses it’s right. Accounting firms are an exception worth knowing about.

What the data shows

Diib compared mobile phone visits with total website visits from June 30 to September 27, 2026. It included websites with at least 300 visits in that period and connected Google Analytics.

  • For the median accounting and auditing website (287 websites), 21% of visits came from phones. Across about 73,000 websites in other industries, the median was 41%.
  • Only 15% of accounting firm websites got at least half their visits from phones, compared with 41% elsewhere.

What this does and doesn’t tell you

This is aggregated Diib data from websites with connected analytics. It shows the device people used, not why they used it. A likely explanation is that many accounting visitors are existing clients doing work: logging in to a client portal, uploading documents or downloading forms, often from an office computer. The data doesn’t confirm that, though.

It also doesn’t mean phones don’t matter. Even at 21%, roughly one visitor in five is on a small screen, and those are often the new prospects looking you up for the first time. The takeaway is balance: the desktop experience deserves as much attention as the mobile one.

YOUR NEXT STEP

One action worth taking

Open your website on a laptop and complete the three tasks clients do most, such as finding the client portal, booking a consultation and downloading a form, and fix anything that takes more than a couple of clicks.
