The Typical Plumbing Website Takes 6.9 Seconds to Show Its Main Content

Across 807 plumbing websites in Diib's data, the median page takes 6.9 seconds to show its main content. Google's target is 2.5 seconds, and only about the fastest tenth of plumbing sites get there.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

If your site takes more than 7 seconds to show its main content, it's slower than half the plumbing sites customers can pick from. Past 11 seconds, you're in the slowest quarter. Getting under 4 seconds puts you in the fastest quarter, a realistic goal even if 2.5 seconds feels far off.

Someone with water on the kitchen floor isn’t going to wait for your website. Diib’s data shows most plumbing sites make them wait anyway.

The measure here is Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): how many seconds it takes for the biggest thing on the page, usually the main photo or headline, to appear. Google recommends 2.5 seconds or less.

What the data shows

  • Typical site. Across 807 plumbing websites, the median LCP was 6.9 seconds.
  • Fastest quarter. 4.0 seconds or less.
  • Slowest quarter. 11.0 seconds or more.
  • Fastest tenth. 2.3 seconds or less, which means only about 1 in 10 plumbing sites meets Google’s 2.5-second target.

Plumbers aren’t unusually slow. The median across all industries Diib tracks is 6.6 seconds. Slow is simply the norm. The plumbing median was 7.2 seconds 30 days earlier, a small improvement, but one month isn’t a trend.

What this does and doesn’t tell you

These figures are aggregated from the most recent automated speed test of each plumbing website Diib tracks, as of October 13, 2026. They’re test results, not averages of real visitors’ experience, so your own visitors may see faster or slower loads. The data doesn’t measure how many customers a slow page loses.

It does show where the bar sits. A page that shows its main content in under 4 seconds is already faster than three out of four plumbing sites. Common culprits on slow pages are an oversized photo at the top, a slider or background video, and a pile of plugins and scripts that load before anything appears.

YOUR NEXT STEP

One action worth taking

Run a free speed test on your homepage and note the LCP number. If it's over 4 seconds, start with the biggest image at the top of the page: compress it, size it for the screen it's shown on, and swap any slider or background video for a single photo.
