Plumbers Have Over 4 Times as Many Google Reviews as the Typical Local Business

The typical plumbing business in Diib's data has 110 Google reviews, compared with 25 for other businesses. Plumbers also get a much bigger share of phone calls from their Google profile.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

In plumbing, a deep stack of strong reviews is the norm, not an advantage. Plumbers get far more calls straight from their Google listing than other businesses do, so the listing is where many customers decide.

When a pipe bursts, nobody reads a plumber’s About page. They look at the stars, skim a few reviews and call. Diib’s data shows plumbers have built some of the deepest review profiles of any small business, and that their Google profile works more like a phone line than a website link.

A Google Business Profile (GBP) is the listing that shows up in Google Maps and local search results, with your hours, reviews, phone number and directions.

What the data shows

  • Review volume. Among the 73 plumbing businesses with connected Google reviews, the median had 110 reviews. The median across about 20,800 other businesses was 25.
  • Review quality. 80% of plumbing businesses were rated 4.8 stars or higher, versus 69% of other businesses.
  • Calls. For plumbing businesses with at least 500 profile views between April 1 and September 29, 2026 (68 businesses), phone calls made up a median 21% of all profile actions (calls, website clicks and direction requests). For about 17,800 other businesses, it was 5%.

What this does and doesn’t tell you

This is aggregated Diib customer data from businesses that connected their Google Business Profile, which may skew toward more established shops. The data doesn’t show whether more reviews led to more calls, only that both are higher for plumbers.

It does show what the competition looks like. In plumbing, 100-plus reviews and a near-perfect rating is the norm, not a standout. A plumber with 20 reviews isn’t just behind the average local business. They’re far behind the plumbers they’ll appear next to in Google Maps.
