On Hobby and Leisure Websites, Phone Visitors Stay Longer Than Desktop Visitors

For the typical hobbies and leisure website in Diib's data, mobile visits lasted about 2 minutes 9 seconds, longer than desktop visits at 1 minute 56 seconds. Across other industries, desktop visits run longer.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

Visitors to hobby and leisure websites spend more time on phones than on desktops, the opposite of most industries. If your mobile site is cramped, slow or hard to shop, you're shortchanging the visitors who stay the longest.

For most websites, desktop visitors stick around longer than phone visitors. Hobby and leisure websites flip that pattern. They cover everything from crafts and outdoor gear to collecting, gaming and special events.

What the data shows

Diib compared mobile and desktop visits on websites with connected Google Analytics and at least 150 visits from each device type between June 30 and September 27, 2026:

  • On the median hobbies and leisure website (1,087 sites), mobile visits lasted about 2 minutes 9 seconds, versus 1 minute 56 seconds on desktop.
  • Across about 55,000 websites in other industries, it went the other way: about 1 minute 57 seconds on mobile and 2 minutes 2 seconds on desktop.
  • Hobbies and leisure also had the highest mobile engagement rate of the five largest industries in Diib’s data: 53%, versus 51% for other websites.

What this does and doesn’t tell you

This is aggregated Diib data from websites with connected analytics. Visit length measures time, not satisfaction, and the data can’t show what people were doing during those minutes. A likely explanation is that hobby content gets browsed in spare moments, on the couch or during a break, when people have time to scroll. The data doesn’t confirm that.

What it does show is where attention is highest. For many hobby and leisure businesses, the phone is where visitors spend the most time with the site.
