Wonderguide – Digital Travel Guides by Locals

We have a firm belief that an untapped opportunity exists in the travel industry, particularly at the intersection of the creator economy. Travelers and locals alike love sharing travel recommendations but still have no mainstream platform to do so.

Travel recommendations are widely shared via word of mouth or through emails, Google docs, and messaging platforms. Wonderguide enables the transition of this existing behavior to an evergreen creator community.

The problem
Having traveled to many different locations the best experiences always come from when we had a local guide providing authentic local recommendations. Those recommendations vary from free experiences (nice park) to paid ones (restaurant or guided activity). Up until now it has been complicated to manage and share those recommendations.

Almost every AirBnB we have visited has “the folder” that includes some recommendations or pamplets for restaurants or businesses in the area. Those recommendations are always offline and of limited use since you can only access them when you are in the AirBnB. By bringing those recommendations online and also allowing for them to be printed in a nice way with QR codes does provide the host with a better solution than currently available.

The solution
On Wonderguide.com you can create your own guide using an advanced yet simple visual editor. You can add personalized recommendations and divide them by sections with descriptions, e.g. “Wine and Dine”, “Nightlife”, “Activities”, “Historic landmarks” etc. Each recommendation can also be customized with a personalized picture and text (like what dish to try at a restaurant or what cocktail to order at the bar). You get a customized url in the form of wonderguide.com/your-url and can easily share the guide on social media or through automatic messages in AirBnB, Booking.com or via text.

The upside
For those that rent their place full time or have a guesthouse your Wonderguide can give you additional income through booking originated through your guide. If your visitor books an activity via the platform you will get a commission of that booking. So you can actually make money by creating and sharing your own Wonderguide.
