Whisky Saga

I am a self-declared whisky nerd. I fell head-over-heels in love with whisky in the Summer of 1997. The history, the myths, the creative marketing was all fascinating. The whisky itself was the main attraction though; there is such an incredibly wide variety of styles and types of whisky; young, old, sweet, oaky, floral, bitter, dry, savoury, peaty, smoky etc. Matured in all manner of oak casks giving a host of possibilities; bourbon casks, sherry butts, rum puncheons, wine barriques, madeira drums, hogsheads, chibidaru, bloodtubs, quarter casks etc. Then on top of that you have all the types of whisky; single malt, blended malt, blended whisky, single pot still whisky, bourbon, rye, corn whisky, wheat whisky, rice whisky, moonshine and new make.

As my passion grew I had an increasing desire to share my passion – to help more people discover the wonderous world of whisky. Thus I started the blog Whisky Saga in January 2012. Since then I have reviewed well over 2000 whiskies. On the blog I also publish reviews and reports from festivals, whisky bars and distillery visits around the world.

I have hosted heaps of whisky tastings over the years, and visited distilleries as often as I could; in particular in Scotland, Japan, and the Nordics.
