Andrew had a high flying corporate job in London but loved adventure travel. David “Wavy” Immelman was already an experienced professional sailor – in fact, one of THE most experienced sailors on the planet … Together, they talked about how they could encourage more people to experience true life at sea – about going beyond the holding of a qualification to truly mastering the Ocean

.Sadly, Covid-19 stopped the yacht race they were on and they both went back home. Andrew to London and David to his home in Cape Town, SA but the idea of Wavysail was born.

A few month later, they started “Wavy’s online Masterclass” – bringing together people stuck at home and teaching them sailing theory – these courses were so popular that they added an ‘advanced’ course. They also found out what people wanted from a practical ocean adventure and these have been our guiding principles on which we built our practical sailing adventures

1) Small Groups – we have maximum 6 people on board (that makes us different to other providers, who tend to have at least 10 people in a group) – it means, Wavysail trips have much more ‘one to one time’ … We also tailor to every guest. We speak to each guest before the trip, find out what they want to experience and adapt to suit.

2) Hands-on – We get you involved in ALL aspects of sailing. Including the planning, shopping, as well as the sailing itself – yes, you will cook and clean…you will do the nice bits and the less nice bits…It’s all sailing and it’s all part of experiencing life on a small yacht and a big ocean.

3) Worlds most experienced skippers – All wavysail skippers have a MINIMUM of 500,000miles of Ocean sailing experience (that’s equivalent to 10x round the world!) – We believe these are the highest experience requirements of any sailing business, anywhere in the world. Our skippers are truly exceptionally experienced. We count sailing world record-holders amongst them. But, we are not here to stoke their ego’s … Our trips are all about guests sailing with exceptional skippers so the guest has an awesome time!

We run 3 levels of adventure,. “Relaxing” – 1 week in Croatia. Stretching – 10 days in Scotland. Epic Voyages (48 day from Cape Town to St Helena island and back!) … Our vessels are 50-60ft, fully equipped.
