watMooi: The Netherlands' First Sustainable Fashion Webshop Founded in 2006, watMooi is the first and longest-running sustainable fashion webshop in the Netherlands, built on a simple but enduring philosophy captured in its own tagline: "Mooi voor jou én mooi voor de wereld", beautiful for you and beautiful for the world. What began as a small initiative to make conscious fashion accessible has grown, over nearly two decades, into a trusted destination for women who want to dress well without compromising their values. watMooi curates clothing, knitwear, accessories, and jewelry from brands that share a commitment to honest, transparent, and environmentally responsible production. Every brand in the collection is chosen not for fleeting trends, but for genuine craftsmanship, durable materials, and a story worth telling. A Curated Collection with a Purpose watMooi's assortment reflects a clear buying philosophy: proven styles, timeless colors, and quality that lasts, rather than chasing seasonal trends. The webshop's core customer base is women between roughly 35 and 85 years old, a demographic that values conscious living, animal welfare, and a connection to nature, and that appreciates being spoken to as a trusted friend rather than as a sales target. The collection spans a wide range of categories: knitwear from Scottish heritage brand ERIBÉ, hand-knitted using traditional techniques and natural wools such as Shetland and merino; colorful, characterful clothing from the Berlin-based label Blutsgeschwister, a Fair Wear Foundation member since 2013; playful, GOTS-certified graphic T-shirts from GreenBomb; coastal-inspired, B Corp-certified womenswear from the British brand Seasalt Cornwall; and fairtrade jewelry from A Beautiful Story, handmade by artisans in Nepal and India, founded, coincidentally, in the very same year as watMooi itself. Beyond clothing, watMooi also carries sustainably produced basics such as Boody's bamboo underwear, a B Corp-certified brand recognized as one of the highest-scoring companies in the global apparel industry, and a range of accessories, loungewear, and thoughtful gifts, all selected with the same standard: honest materials, fair production, and lasting quality. Sustainability as a Standard, Not a Slogan watMooi does not claim to be a certification body, and is transparent about that distinction. Rather than awarding its own "sustainable" label, watMooi bases its choices on the information provided by its suppliers and, where possible, favors brands with recognized third-party certifications such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), the Fair Wear Foundation, B Corp, and the Responsible Wool Standard. Where a formal certification does not yet exist for a given material, watMooi looks instead for transparency: brands that are open about where their materials come from, how they are processed, and under what labor conditions their garments are made. A Personal, Community-Driven Approach Unlike many larger fashion retailers, watMooi is still run with a personal touch. Owner Joke oversees marketing, content creation, customer service, and buying herself, working closely with a small team to manage advertising and technical operations. This hands-on approach shows in how the brand communicates: warmly, personally, and directly, more like a knowledgeable friend recommending a favorite piece than a faceless retailer pushing a sale. That personal tone carries through to watMooi's social media presence, where daily content spans product spotlights, sustainability facts, behind-the-scenes glimpses (including regular appearances from Joke's own horse, Bluf), and seasonal inspiration. A twice-monthly newsletter keeps loyal customers informed of new arrivals and seasonal sales, always framed around the idea that nearly two decades of careful curation, not simply a discount, is what customers are paying for. Looking Ahead watMooi is investing heavily in original, well-researched content: brand storytelling, material guides, and thematic pages that go beyond simple product listings. The goal is not just to be found, but to be a trusted, go-to source of knowledge in Dutch sustainable fashion. watMooi: mooi voor jou, mooi voor de wereld. Beautiful for you, beautiful for the world.
