Wandering Italy

A site that leads you astray from the well-beaten track–to towns with character and villages in which folks make their own food, from salted pig parts to foraged acacia flowers for fritters.

Should you get your travel advice from someone who lives in Italy or is an American who knows it? James Martin is an American who lives in Italy half the year (and has done so for 20 years), so he qualifies as both: someone who knows Italy inside out, but who also understands what Americans don’t generally know, like the season for puntarella, for example.

In the Wandering Italy Blog, we feature character sketches of interesting Italians met at random. We discuss shutters and pellet stoves and the joys and tribulations of living in another country.

And we can’t go on without mentioning food and wine, from spectacular feasts to the pleasures of the Italian aperitivo. It’s all documented on the site that keeps growing as I find spectacular destinations the big sites don’t bother with.
