VisionKayak – Experiences in GLASS KAYAK® in Denmark

Maybe you’d love to go on the water for kayaking or canoeing? Then you’ll simply have to try VisionKayak’s completely see-through canoe/kayak hybrids at the Limfjord by Skive in Jutland, Denmark!

VisionKayak is one of the only places in Europe and the first place in Denmark (and the rest of North- and Central Europe) where you can experience the see-through, glass-bottom kayaks. The kayaks act as giant windows to the marine life underneath the surface and let you explore a part of Denmark you probably haven’t seen yet: experience the crabs of the Limfjord hurry across the sandy and rocky bottom of the fjord, float over large areas with blue mussels, see tiny fish enjoy the sunlight, jellyfish float peacefully through the water, and the seaweed tickle the bottom of your kayak.

You can choose between morning, sunset, and full moon trips in GLASS KAYAK® with VisionKayak in Denmark. Please note that the more daylight, the easier it is to see through the water – however, you can bring a flashlight if you’d like for those cozy evening trips, so you both get to enjoy the stunning colors of the sunset/the silvery light of the full moon, AND the marine life that goes to rest underneath your kayak.

Morning trips in GLASS KAYAK®:
The morning trips are a perfect activity for couples, groups of friends, and families with children of all ages. You get to enjoy a nice trip on the fjord, and some fantastic quality time together as a family, while getting the added bonus of being able to see through the kayak and observe the marine life underneath you. Usually, most children will sit with their noses pressed against the bottom of the kayak as they direct their parent/grandparent/older sibling/aunt/etc to go right or left, back or forth, as they follow a crab, a fish, or similar swimming along the bottom of the fjord. It is a lovely way to spend a nice day in the sun, enjoy the peace and quiet on the fjord, while also getting to opportunity to extend your and your child’s understanding of our delicate, marine ecosystem. It is a great way to show why it is so important that we take good care of our nature.

Sunset and full moon trips in GLASS KAYAK®:
The evening trips (the sunset and full moon trips) are also perfect for groups of friends, as a romantic experience for couples, and great for families with older children (as the trips follow the time of the sunset, so they can get a bit late for some young children). Here, we’ll take off in the last daylight, so you get a chance to explore the life beneath the surface as we head out. Depending on the direction and amount of wind, we’ll either row North or South along the beautiful coastline of Skive. On quiet days, we’ll row North to get a direct view of the sunset towards the west with all its beautiful orange, red and golden colors. If it is very windy, we’ll head South, as we then stay entirely sheltered from the wind (that, in Denmark, usually comes from the West), and enjoy the stunning “backside” of the sunset towards the East with its pink, purple, turquoise and blue colors. If you’ve booked a full moon trip, you’ll also get to see the full moon rise above the horizon and get more and more silver and large as we head back to the beach. Both types of evening trips in see-through kayak-/canoes are absolutely STUNNING and a sure must-do when visiting Denmark.

Safety:
When joining VisionKayak’s trips in GLASS KAYAK®, there’s always at least one instructor with you during the trip to ensure safety and answer any questions you must have about the area of Skive, the coastline, the marine life, and help with rowing techniques if necessary. The most important thing for VisionKayak is keeping you safe, so you without worry can concentrate on what’s important to you: enjoying the trips and spending worry-free quality time with your family. That’s also why it isn’t possible to rent the kayak/canoe hybrids for trips on your own. The trips take place on Skive Fjord, which is a “side fjord” to the Limfjord. This means that it is very calm, quiet water with no scary undercurrents and little-to-no waves. We row very close to the shore, and the water is extremely shallow, so for the most part, you’ll theoretically be able to walk to land. The coastline is stunning and a must-see in itself: it is tall and draped with forest and trees all the way down to the water (on high tide, the trees even reach out over the water and it is possible to row underneath them in a Danish “mangrove”-ish forest). The coastline is facing East, and as the wind 90% of the time comes from the West in Denmark, we’re completely sheltered from the wind on most days.
We have buoyancy aids in all sizes. You can either bring your own or borrow one of ours, as, during the trip, everyone must wear a buoyancy aid. Our buoyancy aids are approved and live up to European safety standards; they are from known brands like GUL and Crewsaver. All sizes except Junior Mini (2-4 years – these are life jackets) are swimming vests (50N), to ensure full comfort and mobility.
