The Rum Geography

Digital-first, this user-friendly site has the most comprehensive directory of rum brands with their profiles and fun facts all in one place. The vision is to add further maps to join up travel experiences of places to enjoy rum in bars and kickstart a new era of better travel options.
Started in 2023 by a team of rum and tech specialists with a mission to make rum more accessible and support the rum category. Inspired by whisky benefiting from being mapped for decades, they noticed rum’s incredible diversity had remained largely undiscovered. The Rum Geography was formed to change that.
“For rum lovers, a central hub is finally here,” Ewan Henderson, Founder of The Rum Geography. “This platform fills a critical gap for both consumers and the rum industry.”
With the $14bn global rum market rising, RumGeography.com empowers travellers to discover a world of possibilities while supporting local producers. Unlike other sites, the Rum Geography team continually updates the platform’s data to reveal the true scale of rum production worldwide.
“With travel firmly back and a generational shift of experience-seekers craving slower, more authentic adventures, that support local communities, we bridge that gap for unique itineraries,” says Ewan Henderson, Founder. “Imagine the Lonely Planet, but exclusively for rum. In-depth guides and insider tips unlock richer vacation experiences for more convenient travel planning.
“Imagine Lonely Planet, but for rum lovers!” says Henderson. Explore Rum Everywhere, that’s our motto. We offer rum travel guides, expert advice, and insider tips on destinations, helping you get the most out of your rum adventures.

RumGeography.com shatters the myth that rum is just for exotic vacations. Users can discover neighbourhood brands in most US cities, or across Europe and Australia for a weekend getaway. Improved itineraries bring together rum tours, events, foodie options, cocktail workshops, and live events.

The Rum Geography is the only place to show where rum is made worldwide. A recent addition to the site is “The United States of Rum”, a dedicated area for American-made rum.
The surprising truth? The US has the most producers of rum in the world, with well over 500 brands and distilleries in 49 states. Driven by the thriving craft distillery scene, many local rums are waiting to be explored. RumGeography.com features each state with an overview and a map of the local distilleries that make rum, opening a new chapter in the exciting world of American rum. As part of the campaign, state-by-state guides are being published to share the people and places behind these distilleries including good places to enjoy rum at a local bar or restaurant to complement your visit.
Industry reports show a surge of 20% in craft rum distilleries in recent years, the boom in distillery tourism supports the local economy. The generational shift in consumers seeking authentic and local experiences is a natural fit for the sheer scale of modern American rum – over 500 rum producers.
“American rum has been overlooked locally for some time,” says Ewan Henderson of The Rum Geography. “The landscape has changed, and the narrative needs to reflect this. Americans now have a site that shows where to find rum distilleries on their doorstep. Supporting a local rum can ensure better-quality rum in future.”
RumGeography.com has created a “United States of Rum” section on their site. Each state has an overview sharing its geography and rum heritage, and a map of local rum producers. Rum guides help visitors locate up-to-date rum distilleries and must-visit bars to pair with your visit. This aligns with the growing trend of experience seekers who don’t want intense FOMO.
Beyond tropical vacations: While Caribbean rum’s popularity is undeniable, the US has a long and fascinating rum-making tradition. From nearly 200 rum distilleries in colonial-era New England to over 500+ modern-day producers, American rum is evolving and RumGeography.com is helping to reconnect foodies and travellers with exciting products and help them realize their potential.

“Platforms like this enable us to reach people to show what we have to offer that is unique and different and we don’t get lost in the crowd. This brings more people to our business which has a trickle-down effect to our staff and all of our families.” Paul Menta Owner, Key West First Legal Rum, USA
