The John Dyer Gallery

The John Dyer Gallery is one of the UK’s leading online art galleries. We represent three of Cornwall’s most acclaimed contemporary artists, John Dyer, Ted Dyer and Joanne Short. We have been exhibiting art in the UK and Europe for over thirty years and have built up unique working relationships with many of the leading organisations in the UK, including the National Trust, the Eden Project, the Born Free Foundation, the Arts Council, Visit Cornwall, Survival International and many more.

Cornish art has a unique history and place in the UK. In the 1950s Cornwall was the centre of modern art for the entire world, and today our artists’ work can be placed directly on that timeline. Our artists are celebrated nationally with their paintings held in national collections, museums and galleries.

The John Dyer Gallery exhibits art online and in extraordinary physical locations for our exclusive private view events. We showcase original paintings, signed limited edition prints, wall art poster prints and a wide range of exciting gift items that feature the work from our acclaimed artists. All of the art can be seen and purchased at https://www.johndyergallery.com

We also support art education and the environment with our Last Chance to Paint arts project that we deliver with the Earth Day Network, Born Free and the Eden project. We have hundreds of schools in 29 countries that engage with our artists to paint and connect to our world. https://www.lastchancetopaint.com

Visitors to our online gallery, who contact us, will be dealing directly with the artists who happily answer any questions, take calls and chat to collectors.

John Dyer is Cornwall’s best loved artist and his colourful work is known the world over through his many art prints and cards that have been published over the years. Born in 1968 John was raised on the wild North Coast of Cornwall and this love of the landscape and environment has informed his paintings. An artist, explorer and environmentalist John Dyer is a unique force in British contemporary art. John Dyer is the artist in residence for the Eden Project and an artist for the Earth with the Earth Day Network. The artist has had many important residencies over the past thirty years and has painted all over the world from the Amazon rainforest, Peru, Australia, Borneo and Costa Rica to name a few. John Dyer has also painted for the United Nations year of Rice and has painted many important ethnobotanical works.

“There is an innocence and freshness to John Dyer’s art that follows a tradition in Cornwall that includes the work of Alfred Wallis, Christopher Wood, Fred Yates and Bryan Pearce. Rather than trying to record what he sees, John sets out to capture the ‘essence’ of his subject. The ‘essence’ of seagulls, cats, dogs, bobbing boats, or exploding fireworks communicate far more strongly through John’s brushstrokes than they would if drawn more traditionally. It is this ability to capture the ‘essence’ of what is important that seems to appeal to those who have shown great vision and originality in their own careers, such as Tim Smit, Alan Titchmarsh or Kim Wilde.” Falmouth Art Gallery

Joanne Short, John Dyer’s wife, is an elected member of the elite Newlyn Society of artists in Cornwall and her work is the most famous in the colourist genre in Cornwall. Joanne trained in the UK and Italy and has many influences that feed into her unique paintings.

“I like to think that my paintings reveal a moment of calm and tranquility amidst a hectic world; something to remind us of our holidays and rare moments of relaxation.” Joanne Short.

“Your fantastic paintings not only brought the apartment to life, but also put the energy of the Riviera indoors!”
Toyah Willcox

“They have that rare quality of being able to transport me to those magical Cornish places of holiday dreams, magical light and brilliant flowers.“
Alan Titchmarsh MBE

Joanne Short’s paintings are widely collected and the John Dyer Gallery regularly ships original paintings all over the world for her eager collectors.

Artist Ted Dyer is now in his 82nd year. Ted is John Dyer’s father and completes this unique family of artists. Ted Dyer was born in Bristol in 1940. He has lived and worked for most of his life in the West country. His younger years were spent in Devon and Somerset, then in 1972 he moved with his family to Cornwall. Ted Dyer’s work is highly collectable and his original oil paintings are true modern classics, captivating in their choice of subject matter and beautiful use of paint.

Ted Dyer is ‘The Cornish Impressionist’ that collectors will be pleased to have added to their collections and the John Dyer Gallery has the only new paintings by Ted Dyer available. In fact, all of our artists are exclusive to our online gallery and all of the art, paintings, prints and artist designed gifts are unique to our web site.

We provide a unique opportunity to view and buy leading contemporary Cornish art from three of the UK’s most collected and widely admired artists.
