Bolt’s Story:

My name is Abby and I am the owner/creator of Bolt! For years I wanted to create an online boutique full of clothes that were unique, trendy, and wearable! I remember growing up and trying to recreate the outfits I saw in magazines, but having no luck because those clothes did not actually exist at my local mall. My senior year of college I started Bolt (March 2018). Fast forward 3 years later, and I am now working full-time on this small business, my husband Caleb has joined me, and we created an internship program!!

Early in Bolt’s life I worked part time jobs as a waitress and as a sales associate at a larger retail company while running Bolt out of my parents basement. Eventually, going full-time with Bolt in February of 2020. I have personally handled the branding, product selection, customer service, running our social media accounts, and other daily operations of Bolt. Caleb is finance, marketing, improving design and layout of our website, and generally the “ideas guy” 😉

To be real, the first 2 years of Bolt were a struggle. In November of 2019 we did only $2K in sales. And I’ll save you from pulling out your calculator- that is averaging $24K a year, not profit. Needless to say, I was CRUSHED!!!

At this point, Caleb did the most loving thing possible and encouraged me to quit my retail job and go full time with Bolt to see if this thing was sustainable or not. So I made that risky decision in February of 2020, and just as I did that- BANG! Covid hit. Who would have guessed we would be in a pandemic? Didn’t those only happen in the middle ages?!? Well it definitely changed some things in our business model. We were no longer able to rely on in person pop up shops, but had to grow our online presence only. If you want to hear the full story, I made a video on the matter on our Youtube channel. Covid changed a lot of the ways we operated at Bolt, but also opened doors to so many new opportunities. One thing that is for sure is people are used to shopping online now more than ever- which has helped us out greatly!!

By July of 2020 Caleb quit his job doing data analysis consulting to become a co owner at Bolt! Caleb has been a MASSIVE help to the team, taking the skills and tools he used in the corporate world and applying them to our business to help grow faster than we could have ever imagined! Soon enough we hired our first intern Harper in September! Harper is so sweet and has been a huge help in making Bolt what it is today. On March 28th, 2021 Bolt celebrated it’s 3rd Birthday! Over that week our sales goals were blown out of the water! We had our first ever +100 order day and were honestly in shock. Where will Bolt be or grow into over the next year?

Getting to work side by side with my husband and watching this small business grow has been such a gift from God! God only knows and that gives us a lot of peace. Our hope is in Jesus alone and not in this business, and we have seen that remain true in the ups and down of Bolt.
