The Birdhouse Nature Store started in 1993 with the original owner Connie Crowe, who had an uncanny sense of what wild song birds were looking for in their bird feeders.

She methodically tested different seeds with the birds and came up with The Right Stuff Birdseed Blend and it’s the same recipe that we still use today. The store began its journey in Wooler Ontario in a barn on Connie’s farm, and then moved to downtown Wooler. Bobbi Wright took over the store in 2017 and moved it outside Presqu’ile Provincial Park. When Covid times hit, it became apparent that the location was not completely suitable and their current location became a reality in February of 2021. Bobb and her staff continue to hand measure, pour, and shake thousand of pounds of The Right Stuff every day. It’s offered in 5, 10, and 20lb bags or in 10 or 20lb refillable buckets – a program exclusive to The Birdhouse. In 2022 we hand built and shook approx 60,780 pounds of our seed blend and to date has kept over 5000 plastic bags from going out into the world.
On top of our seed blend, we offer single seeds and other wild bird food, strategic bird feeding tips, feeders for every kind of backyard bird, birdbaths, and nature inspired giftware. We also carry Vortex binoculars! We have a great range of binoculars for every birding enthusiast – Diamondbacks, Vipers and more!
We are always looking for new and interesting giftware and there is sure to be something for just about everyone. Our store is an experience in itself. Set in a century home built in 1867, the rear of the property was transformed from a garage back to its stable roots and an addition added. The original rough and rustic feel of the Wooler store follows and the original beams of the stable exist in their gorgeous glory. If you come to our brick and mortar location in Brighton Ontario, we also have a huge beautiful memorial in our back yard to our original owner. It’s becoming a Brighton Ontario landmark! It stands about 20ft high and is a hand raised to the sky with a chickadee perched on top with a sunflower seed in its mouth.
And when you come inside, feel free to get a little golden retriever love at our dutch door that divides the main house from the retail space. We have three of them willing to love on anyone who comes through the door. The resident cat Phoebe, who adopted us outside of our Presqu’ile location also may greet you in store. They all love greeting our customers with a good dose of furry love.
Connie truly left us an amazing legacy of being advocates for the smallest creatures – our wild songbirds. We take pride in all that we do. We are a woman owned and woman staffed company who are happy to maintain the legacy of “She Feeds the Birds”.
