Bianca started the business out of her own frustration with the lack of variety of nearby nurseries in the City Center of Cape Town.

Succulents tend to have a “granny plants” reputation amongst young people and the broader public mostly just see succulents as cheap water-wise garden fillers that die too easily to be worth investing in.

Succï was started with a vision to provide a premium experience for buying succulents. We want to create the same excitement that exists for the houseplant industry and highlight how weird, varied and wonderful these plants are but also teach people how to actually care for them. There are so many strange myths about their care and unlike someone just selling a product we want our customers to feel like they are part of something bigger. The old proverb “Give a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” is really at the core of what we’re trying to achieve.

The number one thing that make us unique from our competitors is that all our plants are sent potted in our signature grey nursery pots. Allowing plants to stay in their grow pot while being shipped helps reduce the risk of stress and shock that could happen if they were to be potted in a new planter if sent bare-root. Every plant our clients receive from us is planted in our own perfectly balanced succulent specific soil mix, has been treated with insecticide & fungicide, and finished off with a good sprinkle of controlled-release fertiliser. Each plant is individually wrapped and taped down to avoid soil from falling out of their pots as well as to protect plants in transit. As far as we can, we try and only use natural, plastic-free packaging.

We draw a lot of our inspiration from the Millennials in America & Asia who are breathing new life into this industry with social media. In SA the ecommerce market has experienced a major boost post covid, but we know that a lot of people still want to drive to their local nursery to just hang out with plants. We would love to create unique and trendy spaces or what we call “destination nurseries” in all our major cities in SA. Hence our tagline – Succs in the city.
