Sound Space Performing Arts

Founded in 2015, Sound Space Performing Arts is an urban dance conservatory located in North Philadelphia. We are “more than a dance studio.” Our educational mission is grounded in a deep understanding of music and rhythm, driven by a knowledge of world dance traditions and American history, and committed to growing and encouraging the next generation of dance artists. We have the only youth percussive dance conservatory program on the East Coast.

Our children’s conservatory program offers a variety of training tracks from primary, development, pre-professional and conservatory levels to inspire and challenge each one of our dancers. We teach performance to our dancers as a valuable and necessary skill that is practiced through two stage performances a year and invited opportunities around Philadelphia.

Our adult classes and workshops are the epicenter of percussive dance in Philadelphia. We train students at and towards a professional level. We are committed to the cultivation of individual artists and helping them find their voices through percussive dance. We encourage students to engage in the study of their craft with focus, joy and rigor.

We “walk the walk” when it comes to community development and outreach. Since opening our first location at 1525 North Bailey in 2015, we have formed partnerships with neighborhood organizations, assisted yearly with fundraisers for Bache-Martin Elementary, Robert Morris Elementary, Vaux High School, Branch Family Foundation and Athletic Recreation Center, organized street festivals and raised funds to paint a neighborhood mural at 2511 West Girard Avenue. In 2019, our studio received a commendation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for our ongoing work to bring the arts to Brewerytown (House Resolution 355!)
