Positive Parenthood

I was a Stanford researcher focused on social emotional learning, so I thought parenting would be at least somewhat easier due to my knowledge and research. But with three children under three years old, I was unable to put all those theories into practice. And so I turned to my own mother, herself a Ph.D. in this field. What she taught me moved my family from all of us crying all the time, at the same time, to calm & cooperation…. and most importantly, I found my joy in parenting again.

Once my own family was back on track with fewer meltdowns and way more joy, we revamped my mom’s parenting class she’d been teaching for 20 years. We combined her expertise in speech pathology, special needs, and childhood mental health with my work in social emotional learning, building empathic families/cultures, and education. We founded Positive Parenthood and started teaching those tools to all kinds of families.

We have worked together to grow Positive Parenthood, offering a new cohort of our signature course each month and looking to expand to a private community with our own app in 2022. I never imagined working with my mom, but running our organization and supporting parents in creating lasting relationships that guide cooperation with their families it is the dream job I never knew I wanted.

As a parent myself, constant exposure to our relationship-based tools is healing. Parenting is still hard for me – and at Positive Parenthood, we believe the goal is not to parent perfectly, but rather, to parent in ways that nurture the entire family and model vulnerability and repair. We believe all children can cooperate, all parents deserve support, and all families can be achieve calm. Even yours.
