Soap Matters

Christine, a qualified aromatherapist, started Soap Matters in 2016. A love for essential oils and their therapeutic values inspired her to initially develop six natural soaps. Using just essential oils and vegetable oils, Christine designed the soaps to smell fantastic and have benefits for the skin and body. The skin is the largest organ of the body and keeps out “nasties” and protects the body from the outside world. Christine also wanted minimal packaging and so designed re-cyclable labels with minimal use of materials. This has been a brand statement and continues through other Soap Matter’s products which include aromatherapy blended oils for Hands, Feet and Body. Due to the pandemic Christine designed a Hand Oil that moistures and repairs hands after all the sanitising that we have been doing. Add to this her Aromasticks named Sleep Well, Calm Focus, Inner Calm and The Headache Stick. All these products, along with unique, stoneware soap dishes can be combined within luxury, kraft Gift Boxes, which make a fantastic present for anyone.
2020 saw the completion of a dedicated workshop and a new website wwww.soapmatters.net. This year we have entered the Free From Skincare Awards and submitted two of our most popular products; the Foot and Hand Oils.
New products on the drawing board include Face Oils and a Shampoo bar. For the later the PH needs to be around 5 so that it does not damage the scalp and hair.
We are still attending many local Farmers Markets and continue to engage closely with our customers to find out what matters to them in terms of natural skincare.
We have received many positive remarks about our products due to their natural ingredients. Many commercial products today contain ingredients that dry the skin and make it more prone to blemishes/soreness and unhealthy traits. One lady customer had tried many products including many expensive options but now swears by our natural Foot Oil. Another frontline worker had been to the doctors several times with no success until she tried our Hand Oil.
Another key brand identifier is the use of no plastic. We are encouraging customers to ditch the single use plastic of shower gel and shampoo to use natural, long lasting soap. We wish to be as sustainable as possible and try to source ingredients as locally as possible.
As an addition to our brand we sell unique, stoneware soap dishes. These are designed by an artist through in the west of Scotland and come in a delightful range of glazes and design. Fantastic in either the bathroom or kitchen, they really liven up the room and make a perfect gift.
As well as providing products to clean and moisturise the body, essential oils have a fantastic smell and are great for people’s wellbeing. The scents hit the olfactory system in the brain and has positive, therapeutic effects for people’s mood and wellbeing.
