I am absolutely passionate about this and this mission. I have been in your shoes. I came to the US in the cold winter of 1991. When I came, we had almost a foot of snow. I still vividly remember how happy I was to land in the US. I was married to a beautiful woman. Later on, we had a baby boy. One day I was holding my son in my hands and talking. She told me that she desires a small house without any loan and simple life. That’s all she wanted. Holding my son in my hands, I promise her we will buy a townhouse in the next few years and pay off our house as soon as possible. Later, we purchased a townhouse. After five years, , my wife needed a car so we refinanced the house.
After 5-6 years, I found that interest rates were low again, and guess what I refinanced again. Our family grew, and we wanted to buy a single-family house. But we did not have a down payment, so we refinanced again to get some money for the down payment. Fast forward, it was 2016-17; my wife wanted to retire because her employer was offering early retirement. When she told me, I was like. How could you retire? Do we have three mortgages? One thing is so true, that women have a sharp memory. They can remember all the events. She was not a happy camper. She reminded me of my promise and also said that I broke that promise. That night I could not sleep. During that night, I went to my son’s room I looked at their faces and thought. If something happens to me today, what am I leaving for them? Houses with huge loans? I am not leaving a legacy for them. I am leaving loans for them and they are still in school. I could hardly sleep that night. The end of the story is that my wife could not retire and that’s where my journey to pay off started.
I researched and spent at least fifty thousand dollars, hired a mentor and coach, and came up with a step-by-step plan to pay off the mortgage in 6-8 years without changing my lifestyle. In the next seven months so, using this method, I was able to pay off $90,000 from the townhouse and my townhouse became free and clear. Let me tell you the feeling of paying off a house. It is like taking some weight off your shoulder and feel 20 pounds lighter. In the next two years, I started to work on my single-family house. In Sept of 2018, I had a $660K loan on my home today my loan is $426K, and I have saved more than $205k worth of loan interest. My house will be paid off in Nov. 2025not in 2046. In three years I have saved more than a quarter-million dollars in interest.
