Service Solutions Inc.

United States, Louisville

I can still remember a computer I worked on with the first virus I encountered, it was called the Monkey Virus, and it was on a DOS machine by a company we were a dealer for called KAYPRO.

Main Services:

IT Services, IT Support, Managed IT Services, IT Security, Cyber Security, Chief Security Officer, Virtual Chief Security Officer, VCSO, MSSP, MSP

Service Solutions Inc.

This virus really threw me for a loop, it made the machine act like it had a floppy drive failure, (yes back then it was 5.25″ floppy drives). I would work on this machine for a while, then put it back on the shelf so I could think more about it and research more (this was before the internet). Finally, I read about this Monkey Virus and obtained the software to detect and fix the virus, and it did – wow was that a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away! As technology progressed and more businesses adopted computers, then the more I began to learn the importance of helping business owners with their technology to keep their businesses running. I enjoyed that aspect, learning about other business owners, building relationships, while helping them with their technology. This helped me to realize what my dad loved to do:
1) Help other business owners with growing their businesses.
2) Serve them and help with their needs.
3) Earn their trust.
4) Have their back.
This was a defining moment for me that led me on the journey to want to start my own business. In June 1994 I applied for a business license, incorporated with the business name Service Solutions Inc., and started from the basement of our newly acquired home with $500.00 and a head full of ideas and dreams. My previous employer of 8.5 years was very gracious and helped the transition greatly, which they didn’t have to do. My wife was scared to death, my Dad was happy for me. I think deep down he had always wanted to start his own business. He told me: “You go build the business, and every night we’ll do the books together.” Boy did that business grow, the first 6 months we did $80,000, then the next year $160,000, then $300,000 the next year. We grew and grew. We moved into our first leased space in early 1996, expanded again in 1999, and then bought my old company and merged them with us in 2000, things were moving very fast. We grew in size and grew in staff; it was a wild and exciting time for a young business owner. In 2003-2004 I felt the industry changing, and I started learning about newer, different, and more modern ways to manage things. A new era of managing businesses proactively was emerging quickly, and I was determined to be an early adopter. In those early days we invested heavily in new software technologies and learning better ways to do business and how to manage our clients better – This was our start into Managed Services. Instead of having hundreds of clients one repair at a time, and everyone wanting it now, we were going to start having contracts with fewer customers and build stronger relationships. This was a game changer for us! In those early days we had to really work hard talking to our existing clients and to new prospects that this new way of doing things was using the latest and greatest technology, and that the move away from break-fix was where we were going. In late 2004 we also joined a growing number of companies across the USA that wanted to go in the same direction with their businesses as we did, and that was instrumental in shaping my thinking of how I wanted to do business. It was a long road but in 2010 I was determined that this was the only path that I wanted our business to go. We had some resistance from clients, we some resistance from internal employees, but we were moving forward. In 2016 we were introduced to Advanced Security and what was attacking the world – advanced viruses, trojans, and ransomware. This was devasting to businesses and we had to bring Advanced Security Protection to ALL our clients we were protecting. Luckily most of our clients at that time understood and let me know they were with us, they said things like “We trust you, that’s what we pay you for, watching out for us and having our back”. Some refused, and some of those got hit with forewarning from us of what was coming. Some we had to let go. I could not risk this kind of loss on clients we were paid to protect, and I was not going to risk our business with the liability. This changed everything for us. In late 2018 we decided to go only MSP contracts for 2019 and let the rest go. In my mind we were only going to work with clients that believed in us and trusted in what we were doing, to PROTECT and SERVE our clients. Since we started our Advanced Security Plans back in 2016, not one has been hit with a Ransomware attack, ZERO. Just consider how devastating it been since 2016 for businesses. We are focused more than ever on Protecting Your Business from the Criminals that want to steal your money and destroy your livelihood.
