Second Life Careers

Corporate life, Second Career or both?

Yes, you CAN have it all.

Maybe you’ve been thinking about building something yourself and not sure where to start but you know you want your own business. That’s what Second Life Careers is all about, helping you identify business ownership opportunities that not only align with your personal, professional and financial goals but also with something you’re passionate about and can see yourself doing every day. Whether you want to go gangbusters into your own business full-time or start slow with a side hustle, there are plenty of options that meet almost any requirement.

Second Life Careers (SLC) is a “Marketplace for Entrepreneurial Business Opportunities”. We have franchises, licensing opportunities, companies for resale, start-ups and more.

Who do we work with?

We’ve seen many iterations of entrepreneurial need and recognize the world is changing. In the past, we were solely focused on working with experienced executives and professionals (due to income and age discrimination) but things have changed. Whether it’s loss of employment due to the pandemic, exhaustion from the job itself, corporate life or all of the above, many people are ready to be their own boss and recognize what it takes to be an entrepreneur. It is hard work, dedication and recognizing the risk factor. Ultimately, it’s about believing in yourself and what you can (and will) accomplish. You do not need to be experienced in a particular industry, our clients will provide training, access to systems and ongoing support. At the end of the day, is important to understand how a business runs, reading financials and building teams. As the business owner, you can be hands on or hands off, for many of our clients the structure is up to you, the business owner.

What is it that senior and top professionals do exactly?

They help in planning strategies and policies, sometimes overseeing and managing large staffs and budgets, to ensure that an organization meets its goals and financial targets. These executives work in and across almost every industry, for organizations of varying sizes – SMB to Fortune 500 or Enterprise organizations. From a salary perspective, the median annual wage for chief executives was $184,460 in May 2019; while for general and operations managers the median annual wage was $100,780 in May 20192. Their schedules can be erratic and extremely demanding, placing large amounts of stress not only on them as individuals, but also on their families because the required work may include working regular evenings and weekends. Then suddenly one day, it can all stop…without warning. At SLC, we’ve seen and heard many stories with similar outcomes. Experienced executives who’ve lost their jobs due to income and salary discrimination, in most cases ‘re-organized’ out of their positions. They start their job search and look for months, unable to find anything that meets their skill, salary and overarching career goals.

Why SLC?

SLC also stands for Service, Loyalty and Compassion. We stand behind our clients, their services and support. If they’re not performing or responsive, they don’t stay with us long.

There is NO CHARGE or obligation to go through our evaluation process, which includes introductions to senior members (directors, presidents and owners) at our clients. Some will even let you attend training without signing on with them first, you decide AFTER completing the initial training.

Business mentors are key—we want to give each of individual the time and guidance they deserve. Working in tandem with our clients, our goal is to provide as much support as possible so candidates can learn how to start a business and hit the ground running, generating revenue and growing their business as quickly as possible.

What is our mission?

To be part of, and build, a powerful and successful team of dedicated Individuals who are determined and committed to aiding executives around the world to become independent from a volatile job market. Ultimately, helping them to regain control over their own destiny.

“Once upon a time, you could take that first job and it would lead to the next job and the job after that,” said Town Hall panelist John Colborn, chief operating officer at the nonprofit JEVS Human Services, of Philadelphia. “The notion of a career ladder offered some hope of getting back into the labor market. The rungs of the ladder are getting harder and harder to find and some of them are broken.”
