His grandfather and grandmother were both USCG licensed captains who owned and operated the Capt. Louie out of Highlands, New Jersey. After his Navy career, Chris Dos Santos Sr. took over the Capt. Louie and later continued his fishing career in Belmar, New Jersey, working with the spray and optimist and eventually joining Capt. Gary Fagan and his brother-in-law Jimmy Duggan on the Big Mohawk.
Chris Jr. started his fishing career at a young age and learned every kind of fishing technique from the sand to the deep sea. He honed his skills by working with Ken Namowitz aboard his skylarker, which he bought from the Mohawk fleet at the time. Chris Jr. stayed with Capt. Ken as he purchased the vessel Mimi Vi and they worked seamlessly for well over twenty years fishing for everything NJ has to offer.
After injuring his shoulder and being unable to work as a deckhand, Capt. Chris Jr. secured his own vessel, the BarbGail4. However, the boat was outdated and had motor problems, making it difficult for him to fish the way he wanted. After a few years, he sold the BarbGail4 and purchased the SEA OWL. He knew this vessel was the perfect fit for him and his crew, as it was previously owned by Paul Regula, who had it built specifically for fishing charters. The SEA OWL is fast, comfortable, and has plenty of room in the cabin to stretch your legs and escape the elements with a heated or AC cabin.
Since starting with the SEA OWL, Capt. Chris and his first mate, Trevor Friesema, have produced exceptional results. They have caught bluefin tuna exceeding 550 pounds, limited out on tilefish, yellowfin tuna, and caught a variety of inshore species, including fluke, seabass, and blackfish (which the captain loves!).
