Combine this with beautiful scenery on beaches, in woods and open countryside and you’ve got my work summed up. I have met over 1000 dogs and their people and I feel very blessed to be able to work in a creative way with such amazing animals and the people who consider them part of the family.
I started my dog photography journey in 2007 when I got my Pug, Boo. She was, and still is, my inspiration for my passion for photographing dogs. Sadly, Boo passed away aged nearly 17 in September 2024 and although I miss her terribly the inspiration as to why I do what I do is as strong as ever. Boo was, and always will be, my family, my child, my soul mate. My clients feel the same way about their dogs. My aim is to reflect this connection between dogs and their people in order to help cement those treasured family memories for eternity. Having lost my own dog I have an even deeper understanding of how important those images are. Luckily for me I still have my lovely Betsy, a rescue Pug aged 10, and we are supporting each other while we miss our dear Boo.
I like to take a mixture of action shots and portraits in a variety of styles. But the one thing I aim for in each picture is that the dog is happy. That is the fundamental core ethos of how I work: happy dogs equals happy pictures and if it’s not fun you’re not doing it right. I can work with any dog, any age, any temperament and I believe this is because I change what I do to suit each dog and not the other way around, getting dogs to adhere to my way of things.
I offer a mixture of services: first, I do photo shoots for personal clients, ie a family dog or dogs and their people; second, I do commercial photo shoots for businesses small and large; third, I run workshops, both 1-1 and group teaching my style of dog photography and I have an online course which anyone can join called ‘Mastering outdoor dog photography with Rhian White”; last I sell some of my images as stock.
I am always happy to talk to people about whether they feel their dog is suitable for a photo shoot. People have concerns their dog won’t perform or behave but I am very keen to allay any fears people have about this as it’s not about a dog having to do what we want them to do, it’s about them having fun and us capturing that.
