Res Fortes Wines

Through collaboration and a passion for the art of real winemaking, we don’t just deliver great wine, but a wine experience.

Here in Roussillon, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, the terrain is not for the faint-hearted.

At Res Fortes we select grape varietals that will thrive in this challenging environment to produce award-winning wine.

Res Fortes brings to life the vision of one man who has always relished scaling high places, because that is where the greatest rewards are to be found.

Inspired by childhood summers with his wine-loving grandfather in the South of France, Moritz Bak’s fascination with the world of wine began at an early age.

Devoting himself to the study of wine and winemaking, Moritz worked at some of the world’s greatest vineyards, and when he was ready, returned to the south of France armed with both knowledge and a vision. Having carefully selected and nurtured his vines, he produced his first vintage in 2014. Acclaim and awards soon followed.

This passionate mountaineer’s winery Res Fortes is named in tribute to his own love for a hard climb and the fortitude of those like him who have followed in the footsteps of the ancient Romans who scaled and civilised this highland corner of southern France.

As well as the wines themselves, Res Fortes’ elegant bottles and label design prove that the most modern and sophisticated drinking experience can grow from the toughest terrain.

We are extremely hands-on and our vision is uncompromising. The Res Fortes winery in the Roussillon, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, has well-established vines, some of which have been growing for over 100 years. The combination of these vines, the mineral-rich schist terrain, and a perfect grape growing climate means that exceptional fruit is produced consistently every year.

Hand-picking all our grapes and carefully selecting only the best fruit, nothing is harvested until Moritz tastes it. Each of our vineyard terroirs has its own unique qualities which dictate how we choose to ferment and blend the grapes and then age the wines.

Our methods, borne of years of passionate winemaking study, have brought Moritz Bak’s innovative vision to fruition with amazing speed, as recognised by experts and wine lovers worldwide.
