About the founder… and how it all started…

For ten years I was the assistant general manager at a venue called The Manor in West Orange, NJ where we held, on average, 25 weddings in a weekend some of which were featured on the tv show Bridezilla. Working at The Manor, I was constantly taken aback by how stressful and chaotic weddings in the United States are. I grew up in Russia where weddings are three-day affairs that allow the newlyweds to soak in the experience of their wedding while basking in the communal love and well wishes from family and friends. Twelve years after leaving that job, I couldn’t shake the memory of a bride and groom who were so hungry at the end of their wedding that they searched for a piece of bread with butter. They told me how they had missed dinner because there wasn’t enough time for them to enjoy the reception and tend to the responsibilities of the day like spending time with guests, taking pictures, and coordinating vendors. I believed then as I believe now that there is a better way.

While I was running a property management business in the Poconos, I kept thinking about that bride and groom. A decade later thoughts became ideas and ideas became The Pump House Inn and Spa. We are proud to present a new micro wedding experience designed to offer an elegant and modern wedding practice in the Poconos. The difference is immediately evident upon arrival as the couple is greeted by staff with champaign and strawberries before being whisked away to their bridal suite where they can relax and prepare for the rehearsal dinner as the staff greets their guests and gets them settled in our 14-bedroom, historic estate. The bride, her bridal party, and family have the option of spending a leisurely afternoon getting massages and having their nails done at our onsite spa. Relaxed and refreshed, they can retire to their rooms to get ready for the rehearsal dinner that is being prepared by our chefs. During the planning phase, our chefs will present a variety of menu options that can be tailored to your tastes as well as nutritional and dietary restrictions and needs. Menu options can range from casual, like a whole pig roasted over 24 hours and homemade pizzas, to more elegant items like Roasted duck breast with homemade pomegranate glaze. All meals will be served in either our Grand Dining Room or historic, private bar.

The morning of the big day stars as all big days should, with breakfast in bed for the couple as the guests enjoy a catered breakfast in the bar. After a delicious meal, the bride and groom can enjoy massages to get them ready and relaxed for the moment they have been waiting for. Upon their return, their bridal suite becomes a private spacious bridal salon; which comes complete with snacks, drinks, and a 200-year-old rocking chair perfect for photos; where she will find her dress, freshly steamed, and hung. The bed is removed and replaced with comfortable chairs and a make-up stations. She will be greeted by a team of hair and make-up artists to help her prepare to take the most important walk of her life. As she gets ready, the Manor is buzzing with activity as florists prepare for the ceremony and photographers begin documenting the joyous occasion, and the chefs begin to prepare dinner made with fresh and locally sourced ingredients.

Slightly nervous, but rested, the bride immerges from her private salon, crosses the driveway and plans to make her grand entrance. Flanked by the officiant and his groomsmen, the groom awaits her arrival in front of a beautiful stone waterfall. The guests stand, the bride smiles, the groom feels his knees weaken. The moment has arrived. After the ceremony, the photographer will grab the happy couple for photos. The Manor, built in 1842, offers a wide variety of locations for a memorable photo shoot. The Pump House Inn also boasts 3 acres of land with fire pits, gardens, and ancient trees. The grounds are private and the day is yours. You will not be competing with other brides and couples for the best photo locations. Your photo session will be the envy of friends and family as The Pump House Inn is a unique venue that offers amazing natural backdrops for the best wedding pictures. The celebration continues in the historic bar where congratulations are abounded, hors d’oeuvres are served and the happy couple greets the world as man and wife. The wedding party adjourns to the Grand Dining Room where dinner is served. After dinner, the dance floor and photo booths open as the celebration continues into the night. The cake is cut, the bartender is mixing and the DJ is spinning as indoor and outdoor fireplaces light the night. The festivities end with individual, homemade pizzas, a much-needed snack after an unforgettable day.

It is the morning after the night before. The newlyweds start their new life together with a sumptuous breakfast in bed. Friends and family awake to a magnificent Sunday brunch complete with an omelet station, heart shaped pancakes, and a donut tower all made with fresh, local ingredients. The weekend is over, and the road beckons, still there is no need to rush. Checkout isn’t until 2, giving you all the time in the world to walk the grounds, schedule massages and spa treatments, before heading home.

Your dream wedding starts at booking. Our dedicated and professional staff will work out the specifics regarding color schemes, floral arrangements, menu options, and ceremony set up upon booking. There is even a section that focuses on accommodations for your pets should you want to share your special day with your four-legged friends. Once your details have been finalized your only responsibility is showing up. We will handle the rest.

I am not a stranger to innovation. Following my 10 years working at The Manor, I opened a property management business that hosted up to 25,000 guests per year. Dissatisfied with the state of the vacation rental industry in the Poconos with bare beds, empty cupboards, and spartan bathrooms I launched a campaign which made me the industry standard in the Poconos. I made major changes, such as fully stocked kitchens, luxury linen and towels, cribs and high chairs standard in every house, and pet corners complete with beds, toys, and feeding stations. I also made minor changes, like putting Q-tips in each bathroom and Alexa in every bedroom. Ten years of experience in the short-term rental industry led me to The Pump House Inn & Spa. A similar sense of dissatisfaction with the state of the wedding industry led me to realize The Pump House’s potential to become the preeminent destination for micro weddings in the Poconos.
