Our story begins with an outdoor-sports athlete who couldn’t find well-crafted gear that was also unique and stylish. As a passionate kitesurfing instructor, founder Marina grew disenchanted with the water-sport apparel options available in 2015. The problem was a fork in her options. Down the first path lay only overpriced, high-quality clothes in jet black and gray. Down the second path she found beautiful designs—that only lasted one season.
The common thread of great business ideas is problem-solving. Marina and her sister Elena decided to tackle the issue of lackluster apparel options. Their diverse professional skills meshed well, producing a fun and effective synergy. They knew they’d only be satisfied if customers received appropriately priced, durable products. Their collection has grown to meet many shortcomings for customers in water sports, outdoor activities, wellness and beyond.
The game plan has always channeled the motto “do-unto.” The Platinum Sun staff keep their ideal customer (themselves and their friends) ever-present in the design and manufacturing processes. Instead of pushing for profit, Platinum Sun ensures each customer receives a product created with love, care and passion. The processes are akin to rearing a child or training a beloved pet. The combination of quality and design is what separates Platinum Sun. The company creates ten to twenty designs and tests them all. By selecting the winner of all winners, high standards resulted.
After having noticed the greedy, high markup in prices perpetrated by other retailers, Platinum Sun’s prices are selected based on fairness to the customer. By keeping their ears open in honest conversations with clients who face activewear problems, the sisters believed the apparel and accessories would eventually sell themselves.
The results of the sisters’ synergy came in years ago. All five-star reviews shine for nearly every product on all platforms. Platinum Sun’s customer service department is a pleasant place. Many calls express gratitude and satisfaction, along with requests for products, styles, colors and sizes. Loyal customers who turn on their friends to the brand let the sisters know they are still solving the problems of active, fun people.
