Pawsitive Pup Training

It was a little late in life but all those other “jobs” gave me a real appreciation of my clients and the pups they call family. Instead of buying a franchise, I attended CATCH Academy out of NY and was mentored by a fabulous trainer before starting Pawsitive Pup Training. Through my own research I knew I would offer positive reinforcement dog training and behavior services. Punishment methods, referred to as “lazy training” because it only takes seconds to stop a behavior with force, was faster and easier for some, but teaching a dog what to do instead only takes a few more minutes and the dog will be happy, trusting and willing to keep learning. Also all animal behavior experts say punishment is never appropriate for any fear based problems. I’m Lainie Johnston, the owner, a certified dog trainer and Family Paws educator who’s goal is to provide solutions to your canine’s unique needs. I will never use equipment or methods that harm your pup including intimidation, electronic collars, pinch collars or physical force. I will create an environment of trust and a future where your dog will want to continue to learn. Sessions are private so that the client’s unique needs are met.
Understanding that having a trainer is a luxury I will approach your needs with an honest evaluation of the time needed to make progress and provide solutions and activities to practice between sessions to optimize progress. Beyond basic obedience for puppies and adult dogs I offer behavior modification for unwanted established bad habits, fear and aggression therapy, play and enrichment therapy, scent work classes, canine conditioning sessions and family dog education for expectant mothers through teenager interactions with the family dog.
If a problem can be prevented I will work hard to provide the socialization, management and training to foster the great companion dog you desire. Most of my client’s needs fall into categories.
Puppies: Picking the best fit, preparing your home, socializing and teaching good manners, managing expectations with the goal of a great companion dog for your family.
Family Paws education and planning for all kid interactions but especially new baby prep and preschool life with dogs.
Non-Aggressive Bad Behavior: Leash pulling, jumping, distracted, counter surfing and grabbing objects are all habits that can be changed and managed.
Aggressive Behaviors: Biting, growling, resource guarding, leash aggression, high prey drive, fear reactions will be evaluated and a modification plan implemented.
Obedience and good manners: Getting reliable responses to all the verbal and hand signals you want your dog to know. These include all the basic commands and any tricks that would be fun to do.
Enrichment: PPT also offer personalized Canine Conditioning, Scent Work, Brain Games, beginner agility and puzzles.
As part of all the services mentioned above sessions are offered in the PPT training facility or real world locations depending on you and your dogs needs.
