Hopefully, over time (with patience, hard work, and some luck) raising the quality of these songs and recordings, and gaining an audience that enjoys my music and is increasingly willing to support what I’m doing – through sales of my albums and singles – as I continue exploring additional ways to make this business a truly viable one, for example, by having songs of mine appear in films, tv programs and commercials (sync licensing).
Up to now, much of my focus has been on getting better at songwriting and studio recording practices, but as I’ve begun advertising a bit on platforms like Facebook, and seen the number of subscribers to my YouTube channel slowly but surely be on the rise, I can see that if I’m serious about becoming successful at this, I’ll need to pay closer attention to the business and technical side of Michael Lyon Music.
From the emailed communications I’ve been receiving from diib (and as I look at the low ratings/rankings for my Bandzoogle-built website, michaellyonmusic.com, virtually across the board on my diib dashboard) it’s clear that getting that website much more “up to speed” must be viewed as a priority.
While I love the music of the Beatles and the great singer-songwriters like James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Neil Young, the music business today is a lot different than when those artists were revolutionizing popular music. While ultimately, like them, I’ll be judged by the quality of the songs I come up with, in today’s world it’s not enough simply to record a great album and rely on that as a ticket to a successful music-making career. Rather, in this era of social media and streaming, it’s necessary to be as good at communicating with lots of different people – in many different ways, especially through my website – than it is simply excelling at the craft of writing a memorable song.
Anything you can do to help me with improving the quality of my website – in terms of rankings, authority, backlinks, speed, core vitals, etc. – I’m all ears.
