Integrating the most basic elements of living within the framework of land and sea, photos highlight the innate connection we have with our land, bringing that mood into your interior space. I love living near the water and traveling to places where the outdoors are a central part of life. Experiencing that connection with the natural world is part of my ethos and I try to convey that through photos. Each photo incorporates my natural surroundings paired with the most basic elements of human influence; ones that have an innate connection to their location, be it a dinghy or barn. They are meant to highlight our more simplistic ways of living, which I believe runs deep within our DNA. They also help to give a sense of place to scenes that have no identifying characteristics. Over time, these footprints have become diluted out of our society. I cherish seeing them, as they force us to slow down and indulge in the spirit of our more ancestral ways.

As a kid I was inspired by my father’s adoration for nature and exploration as well as seeing National Geographic’s stunning panoramic photos of parts of the world I did not know existed. As an adult those foundations still resonate strongly within me and continue to propel my photography drive.

Within each frame, I tend to incorporate lines, color accents and patterns, arranged in a balanced way that invites the viewer in. The final ingredient, light, is something I can’t control, so I am at the mercy of Mother Nature to cooperate. To try to get an edge, I closely monitor the weather, and keep notes on locations that would pair well with certain conditions, like snow, fall foliage or clouds.

Based in Marblehead, most of my images are captured locally. I am in Vermont frequently so there is a heavy representation of photos from there too. Other locations in my online gallery include Nantucket, Cambridge-Boston and South Florida.
