GVS was founded in 1999. The distance-learning model allows us to take in students from all over the globe at any time of year. We support families shaping tomorrow’s global citizens with an individualized, enlivening, and holistic educational experience. We are proud of our regional accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), which we earned without compromising our educational philosophy. We meet students where they are, adjusting our approach to meet their needs. Students author their lives and learning by following their curiosity through interest-based education. Families choose from our global-minded course guides, design their own, or look deeply into their communities for learning opportunities. Cycles of inquiry emphasize social justice, diversity, and sustainability while building decision-making skills and expanding knowledge.
Students emerge from the program with characteristics reflecting years of establishing intelligent, self-affirming habits. Mature, Healthy. Productive. These young adults are comfortable in their skins and deeply sensitive to the needs of others. The GVS team helps students stay on track to fulfill graduation requirements to earn an accredited high school diploma. Enrollment in Global Village School grants your family access to experienced teacher support and a private school’s administrative services. We maintain all student records and provide written and numeric evaluations, an annual transcript review, and other services.
GVS is open to students and families from all backgrounds, experiences, and levels of success in traditional schooling. Our student body comprises Buddhists, Unitarian Universalists, secular humanists, and LGBTQ+, alongside families that have previously enjoyed Montessori and Waldorf schools and international travelers. In addition, we welcome athletes, actors, and students with unique educational needs and learning challenges.
