Ewing Young Distillery

Located on a beautiful and historic thoroughbred farm, visitors enjoy gorgeous natural scenery while sipping premium craft spirits and cocktails.

Distiller and owner Bev Root left her job as chief operating officer of a regional law firm to start the Distillery, which opened to the public in late 2018. She was inspired by Ewing Young, an important pioneer and Oregon’s first distiller, who is buried about 150 yards from the Distillery.

Bev attended the famed Moonshine University in Kentucky to earn her distillation certificate. She quickly realized she has a talent for blending superb spirits, and that is where she focuses her time. She has created numerous award-winning spirits, and perhaps is most proud of her gin–Mianda’s Oregon Summer Gin–which is her own recipe and named after the woman who planted an oak seedling on Ewing Young’s grave that grew into a huge Oregon Heritage Oak.

Bev developed a line of unique barrel-finished spirits, including a Pinot Noir barrel finished malt Bev developed a line of unique barrel-finished spirits, including a Pinot Noir barrel finished malt using local winery barrels, a Madeira barrel-finished rye, an Oloroso Sherry finished malt, and a barrel-aged gin. These specialty spirits join her mainstay line of Oak Bourbon, Cask Strength Bourbon, Rye Mash Whiskey, Mianda’s Oregon Summer Gin, and Idaho Russet Potato Vodka. Recently, she introduced Burnished Vodka, which is a specially filtered gluten-free vodka, which has fewer congeners (bad alcohol) than regular vodka.

During the Covid pandemic, Ewing Young Distillery answered the community’s call, pivoting its production from gin to hand sanitizer, which the Distillery donated to numerous nonprofits and private citizens in need and sold to businesses and consumers.

Ewing Young Distillery has a small, active Whiskey Club that helps with whiskey barrel sampling and blending, along with typical whiskey club activities. At its‘ inaugural dinner in September 2022, the Club selected and endorsed its first Club Choice Blend, a delicious cask-strength blend of wheat, rye, malt, and corn whiskeys. In 2023, the Club is planning a trip to Kentucky to experience the Bourbon Trail.
