Our Reggio Emilia influenced preschool and kindergarten programs see children and teachers building learning experiences that emerge from the children’s own play and interests. Children are motivated to learn through the resulting multidisciplinary, STEAM focused projects. We are a happy, safe space for healthy childhood development!
We are certified as a child care center by the Japanese government and employ licensed, experienced teachers. Children’s rights are faithfully respected and children’s voices are central to our play and learning pursuits. Our curriculum and standards are informed by the US National Association for the Education of Young Children, the Japan National Curriculum Standards for Kindergartens, and influenced by Italy’s Reggio Emilia Approach. We also use Early Years Singapore Math, and literacy learning is individualized to each child’s level of understanding!
With our low student:teacher ratio, Discovery students receive plentiful positive attention on a daily basis. Beyond daily learning pursuits and play time in our indoor and outdoor spaces, we celebrate a variety of Japanese and international festivities, such as Sports Day, A Winter Concert, and a Spring Concert. We venture out into the community for project-related field trips 3 times a year. For families in need, we have day care beyond classroom hours from 8:00-18:00!
Discovery was founded by an American national for the expat community in eastern Nagoya, Japan. We have served students from over 25 countries since 2010. Enrollment is permitted throughout the year. We look forward to welcoming your family to our warm and welcoming community!
