Boutique Academia was founded in 2010 as a way to share the beauty and power of science and math. We wanted to design affordable STEM jewelry to popularize the idea of science symbolism within fashion.

At Boutique Academia, we believe in the power of visual semiotics – the use of symbols in wearables to spread a message (“brand X is cool”) and to reinforce identity. We decided to co-opt this process by deliberately combining traditionally feminine objects (jewelry) with symbols from STEM disciplines. Our goal is to create wearable art that both inspires the wearer and also sends the message that femininity and STEM are completely compatible. We wanted gender prompts to create feelings of empowerment, knowledge mastery, and group belonging.

We wholesale nationwide and keep our retail pricing affordable for everyone from college students majoring in biology, mathematics, nursing and premed to teachers, professors, nurses, doctors, and scientists of all kinds. We also provide beautiful gift boxes so that our science necklaces and earrings can be unique gifts for graduation, birthdays, back-to-school, and other special occasions.

We have a large collection of space and astronomy jewelry. It will be expanding soon with our new James Webb Space Telescope mirror pendant & earring set, which will be in good company with our constellation and nebula designs.

In biology, we have anatomical heart, virus and antibody designs that appeal to biologists and medical professionals. Psychologists tend to like our neuron earrings and serotonin, dopamine, and acetylcholine neurotransmitter necklaces. And our Latin phrase jewelry is a popular inspirational graduation gift.
