Black Cat Treasure Hunts

Initially I couldn`t quite hit on the right name. By chance though I came across a solution when a black cat crossed my path and followed me for a while in Alfriston, a village in East Sussex. Alfriston was one of my first on-line hunts. Destiny had struck!
Since that year I have retained the core of around 25-30 on-line, downloadable treasure hunts, that serve as an introduction to the company. I have developed, though, specialisms in writing bespoke, personalised treasure hunts for team building, hen parties and all types of celebrations and unique events. These are more comprehensive with cryptic questions and original challenges. I am renowned for the high level of detail and personalisation I add to the treasure hunts. For example, a hen party treasure hunt for a bride to be, will include lots of information, fun facts, anecdotes and photos from different stages of their life (usually supplied by a Maid of Honour or sister) into the questions and mini challenges that comprise the treasure hunt. These are a great way to not only explore the town/city being visited, but to have a lot of fun bonding with the rest of the invited guests.
The team building treasure hunts follow a similar format in presentation, but will often utilise responses to supplied fun questions and, sometimes, incorporate themes into questions and challenges (involving taking photos and video clips) too. A legal firm in Shoreditch asked for a crime theme for theirs which was great to write. A few years ago I organised 18 Russians/Kazakhstanis (visiting Brighton from London and Moscow) in a mystery treasure hunt looking for hidden items. They were in fancy dress and the hunt was translated into the Cyrillic alphabet. So really anything is possible!
One of the options I provide for the personalised treasure hunts (as opposed to the downloadable hunts) is to be available on the day to organise the teams with guidelines, the treasure hunts with clipboards and the setting them off at the start. I am also at the end to do the marking and judging of the answers, photos and video clips. Some of the challenges can be subjective so it is often preferable to hand on that responsibility to the person who wrote them!
Free services I offer to groups coming to Sussex include giving ideas for start and finish points and subsequently arranging reserved areas in bars/hotels and cafes. I am also a good person to ask for opinions on other attractions and for people to contact with tourism expertise in Brighton. I can also arrange 20% discount on karaoke in the city too if you book a personalised hunt!
Alternative treasure hunt products include a Murder/Mystery hunt. Once again this can be chosen by any type of group either celebrating or on a team building/away-day type of event. I will use information about the participants and write a unique story involving them all as suspects in a murder/mystery around the city.
A recent addition to bespoke treasure hunt options is the Brighton Heist Escape treasure hunt. (Available in Chichester and Lewes too). This incorporates the one hour maximum time associated with the tension of an escape room with a storyline set around a bank heist in Brighton (or chosen venue). Teams follow similar routes and battle each other to answer as many questions and complete as many challenges within the time. The teams reaching the end in under an hour are given an escape rating out of 100. The team with the highest score wins!
The webpage for celebration treasure hunts draws attention to the fact that these personalised treasure hunts are also great for birthdays, anniversaries,re-unions and all other commemorative festivities. Family and friends can get together for excellent value fun. Seasonally themed treasure hunts can also fit into this category with Christmas parties, Halloween and Easter also attracting enquiries from team building or friends/family groups.
Driving treasure hunts take longer to compile and generally cost a little more. These can turn into half day events and are often epic adventures. This year a family celebrating a 50th birthday with friends had eight cars careering across the Sussex countryside answering questions and getting out to complete challenges. It was also fancy dress and just for your information the Harry Potter team beat the Super heroes (unlucky Iron Man and Spiderman!) and the Super Mario brothers into the top placings.
Other treasure hunts of note would be for foreign student organisations or organised groups from abroad. A treasure hunt is a brilliant way to discover and learn about a new place whilst having fun. I always ensure a first draft is available to check so that the correct and suitable level of English is used.
I have also written birthday treasure hunts for young children outdoors in gardens and areas surrounding the house. These have been original and successful alternatives to an annually difficult decision on what type of party to have.
My background is in leisure and event management…ideal experience for setting up fun treasure hunts and running organised team building events. I live in Seaford, East Sussex and have lived in East and West Sussex for most of my life. This has enabled me to gain extensive knowledge of all the various places featured on the website and some that aren`t! I even went to university in Sussex.
Brighton is the most popular place for the wide ranging selection of treasure hunts that I write, but I am always happy to try new places for popular treasure hunts. I have written hen party treasure hunts in Rye and Eastbourne and team building treasure hunts in Lewes, Chichester and Worthing.
I should add finally that I like a day out too on occasions and will leave Sussex to write treasure hunts in neighbouring counties (if possible) and also London. I have written hunts in Westminster (for a notable hotel chain),Shoreditch (already mentioned), Camden and Hyde Park.
