Billows Psychology

Our psychologist and owner, Helen Billows, has undergone extensive, advanced training in all things trauma, and possesses a deep understanding of the impact of trauma, alongside the necessary conditions for healing and recovery.

Helen is highly trained in Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a cutting-edge trauma treatment recognised by the World Health Organisation as an effective and evidence-based treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Helen is also endorsed by the EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA) as both an EMDR practitioner and consultant. This means Helen has met the high standards set by EMDRAA in both delivering EMDR therapy to clients, as well as in training other clinicians learning EMDR therapy.

Helen’s extensive training enables her to adapt trauma therapy for conditions far beyond PTSD; research indicates many common mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety disorders, can involve a traumatic origin. As such, Helen’s trauma-focussed approach supports healing that genuinely resolves symptoms. While other therapies focus on assisting clients to cope with their symptoms, our goal is to reduce, and ideally, resolve symptoms. In this sense, we do not want our clients to simply learn to ‘live better’ with their difficulties; we strive, where possible, to offer genuine relief.

Helen is also endorsed by the Psychology Board of Australia as a supervisor, meaning she is approved to provide supervision to psychologists in training.

We understand that seeking therapy, and in particular trauma therapy, can be scary and overwhelming. It is our ultimate goal to ensure clients feel heard, respected and safe throughout every stage of their experience with us. We are in this together.
