Beyond The Bathroom Scale

Offering a self-help mobile app and digital therapy resources, Beyond The Bathroom Scale aims to:
• Intervene before disordered eating develops into a full-blown eating disorder
• Support people with the underlying causes of disordered eating, such as trauma.
• Educate and raise awareness of the dangers of diet culture and weight stigma in healthcare via awareness campaigns on social media

The coaching programme has been developed with paying clients over the last five years. By the end of 2021, the mobile app version of the programme went live on Google Play and Apple App Store.

The demand for online, interactive self-help resources will continue to grow as funding is cut for NHS services and in-person private therapy remains expensive and inaccessible for many people.

NHS-funded eating disorder programmes focus on addressing clinical symptoms and weight management. This can lead to many patients being denied access to the programmes, as they are considered not meeting the clinical referral criteria, despite struggling with disordered eating and body image. Moreover, these programmes often fail to address eating disorders’ underlying trauma and other psychological issues.

This makes the resources offered by Beyond The Bathroom Scale® unique in the market, more inclusive and accessible. Everyone is worthy of support, no matter what their current BMI is or how severe their symptoms are.

Over the next few years, Beyond The Bathroom Scale plans to open a private therapy practice offering 1-1 therapeutic interventions for various eating disorders and underlying issues, including trauma.
