SHANE’S STORY

There has been a camera in Shane’s hand for over 30 years. Since he was a ten-year-old boy.
He’s always surrounded himself with books of the greats – like Martin Parr, Bruce Gilden and Diane Arbus – who’ve helped shape how he sees the world.
But it was at Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design that Shane really had the chance to get his teeth into documentary photography – spending two weeks documenting the binmen of Waterford.
He became hooked on the idea of the unposed and undirected.
The images had so much more life to them – a natural depth and beauty. Full of unforced, subtle details.
Then in 2005, he was approached by a friend to shoot their wedding. And he offered Shane free rein to photograph it in his own unique way.

Shane approached the wedding without any pre-determined list of images to record.
Just as a guest, with a camera – focused on capturing the joy, fun and experiences of the day as it naturally unfolded around him.
The images were a phenomenal success.
They instantly resonated with anyone who saw them. They perfectly encapsulated what it was like to be part of the day – transporting those photographed back to exactly how they felt in those moments.
And from there, the phone has never stopped ringing.
Today, Shane lives in Waterford in Ireland with his wife Aoife, children Marnie and Miles, and the not-to-be-forgotten Doug, The Frenchie.
He considers himself extremely lucky, to have to the opportunity to travel from there, to some of the most spectacular locations nationally and internationally, to document a couple’s days.
In his own unique style.
For Shane, it’s definitely a find something you love to do and never work a day in your life kind of a thing.
And his passion, curiosity and playful outlook on life, shines through in everything he does.

DOCUMENTING WEDDINGS +

Shane takes a mainly documentary approach to wedding photography. Natural, modern and relaxed.
He tells a story of what happened by being part of the occasion – spontaneously and intuitively capturing natural and candid shots.
From your point of view, as a client, it will all feel very easy and go-with the flow. Photography won’t dictate the pace of the day but instead will work around how you experience it.
The resulting images will provide a real record of your day as it unfolded.
They’ll capture all the authentic moments and happy memories, so you can relive them – again and again.
And if you’d like to include a few more traditional family portraits, or stunning artistic shots as part of the day, that’s no problem. Shane will plan them in with you, so they get covered in a timely and fun way, that doesn’t keep you from the party for long.
This is your record of what happened on the day you got married.

ELOPEMENTS AND ADVENTURES

Escaping to Ireland is the ultimate dream adventure wedding for many.
And from The Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, Connemara and The Copper Coast – it’s easy to understand why.
If you’re planning on ditching the formalities, for a different type of day, Shane has built up a bank of epic locations over the years.
And that’s just the backdrop to your day.
Elopements are about so much more. There is magic and freedom to them. And an incredible intimacy.
Shane encapsulates everything in how he documents your day – the emotions, the culture and the location.
All of it, into one story of your unique adventure together.

These recognitions are important because they are his way of benchmarking what he does. His way of making sure that the couples who trust him to document their wedding day, are getting the very best.
