Since its inception in the year 2000, Abyss has made significant strides to establish itself as Australia’s premier PADI 5-Star Career Development Centre. The centre boasts a team of experienced instructors who offer a wide range of courses, from beginner to instructor level, as well as Freediver and technical diver training. Abyss Scuba Diving is not just a business; it’s a community for those with a shared passion for the underwater world.
Founded by Peter Letts, a former corporate professional turned diving enthusiast, the business was born out of his profound love for diving and desire to share this passion with others. Peter, initially a nervous diver himself, overcame his fears to become an SSI open water instructor and later a PADI open water instructor. His journey of transformation from a novice diver to a seasoned instructor and eventually to a successful business owner is truly inspiring.
Today, Abyss Scuba Diving is managed by Peter’s daughter, Rachael Fallon, who carries forward his legacy of providing quality diving experiences to customers. The centre is also proud to have received the PADI Green Star Award for its environmental awareness efforts and is 100% Aware committed to protecting the ocean environment.
In addition to offering a variety of PADI courses, Abyss Scuba Diving also organizes local and international guided dive trips, allowing divers to explore some of the world’s most beautiful underwater sites. The centre also offers boat diving experiences through the Abyss Dive Boat, a state-of-the-art vessel equipped with all necessary amenities for a great dive.

Abyss Scuba Diving has a rich history dating back over 21 years and has certified more than 20,000 divers during this time.
The founder, Peter Letts, was a nervous diver who overcame his fears to become a Master Scuba Diver and then a Dive Master. He later became an SSI open water instructor and then a PADI open water instructor.
Peter was awarded the Australian Underwater Products Legend Award in 2021 for an Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Dive Industry.
Abyss Scuba Diving is not just about training; they also provide local guided diving, dive travel, Sydney dive boat charters, equipment sales, and dive gear servicing.
The Abyss Dive Boat is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art dive boat offering access to vibrant and diverse marine life. It features dual ladders and comfortable undercover seating for a convenient and enjoyable diving experience.
Abyss Scuba Diving offers a range of PADI courses, from open water divers to specialized areas like Wreck Diving and Enriched Air Diving.

The Learn to Dive Course at Abyss ensures personalized learning with small class sizes, maximum four students per instructor, and all gear supplied during the course.
Abyss Scuba Diving is a family business, currently managed by Peter Letts’ daughter, Rachael Fallon.
The centre offers PADI learn to dive course with in-water training over two days after completing 10-12 hours of prior study (eLearning), making it a flexible option for those keen on learning to dive.
