Rounded Gear started with a pretty simple idea: holsters shouldn’t be complicated, overpriced, or frustrating to use—especially for people who are just getting into concealed carry. Like a lot of companies in this space, our roots go back to a time when buying a holster felt harder than buying the firearm itself. You’d finally pick up your handgun, feel confident in your decision, and then immediately run into a wall trying to find something to carry it in. The options were either cheap, poorly made holsters that didn’t fit quite right, or expensive custom setups with long lead times and way too many decisions to make. We saw that gap and built Rounded Gear (originally Concealment Express) to fill it. From day one, the focus has been on making holsters that just work—no guesswork, no gimmicks, no unnecessary friction. You pick your firearm, choose your hand orientation, and you’re good to go. It sounds simple, but getting that right at scale is actually pretty difficult. Everything we do revolves around that idea of consistency and reliability. We manufacture our holsters here in the United States using Kydex, which is a durable thermoplastic that holds its shape and gives you that clean, consistent “click” when your firearm seats properly. That click matters more than people realize—it’s a small thing, but it’s a signal that your holster is doing its job. It’s secure, it’s predictable, and it’s repeatable every single time you use it. And that’s really what we’re after: repeatability. A holster isn’t something you want to think about once you’re wearing it. It should be comfortable enough to forget about, secure enough to trust, and simple enough that you don’t have to constantly adjust or tweak it. A lot of brands lean into complexity—different attachments, endless customization options, niche features—but we’ve always leaned the other way. We focus on the fundamentals and make sure they’re dialed in. That approach has resonated especially well with newer gun owners. Over the past several years, we’ve seen a huge wave of people buying their first firearm. For many of them, concealed carry is completely new territory. They’re not looking to become gear experts—they just want something safe, reliable, and easy to use. That’s exactly who we build for. At the same time, we’ve earned a lot of trust from experienced carriers too. People who have tried multiple holsters tend to appreciate something that’s straightforward and dependable. No surprises, no unnecessary bulk—just a clean, well-built product that does what it’s supposed to do. One of the more unique challenges we’ve taken on is scale. We support a massive range of firearm models—hundreds of them—and each one requires its own precise mold. On top of that, we offer variations for right-hand and left-hand draw, as well as different color options. Behind the scenes, that creates a pretty complex system of SKUs and product configurations. But from the customer’s perspective, it should feel simple. You shouldn’t have to dig through a confusing catalog or wonder if something will fit your specific setup. Our goal has always been to make it easy to find exactly what you need, even though there’s a lot going on under the hood to make that possible. That’s also where our experience with e-commerce—especially Amazon—comes into play. We’ve spent years refining how we present our products so customers can quickly identify the right holster for their firearm. That includes everything from how listings are structured to how variations are grouped together. It’s not always perfect—there are definitely limitations in how marketplaces handle complex product catalogs—but we’re constantly working to improve that experience. Another big part of how we operate is listening to feedback. Because we sell at scale, we get a lot of data—reviews, returns, customer questions, all of it. We take that seriously. If we see patterns, we dig into them. Maybe a certain firearm model needs a slight adjustment in retention. Maybe a product description isn’t setting the right expectations. Maybe packaging can be improved to prevent issues in transit. We don’t treat those things as one-off problems—we treat them as signals. Over time, that feedback loop has helped us refine both our products and our processes. Pricing is another area where we’ve been very intentional. There’s a wide spectrum in this industry. On one end, you have very cheap holsters that cut corners on materials and consistency. On the other end, you have premium brands with high price tags and long wait times. We’ve always tried to sit in the middle—offering a product that feels premium in terms of performance, but without the premium price. That balance is important, especially for someone who just bought their first firearm and is already making a significant investment. The last thing they need is to feel like they have to spend even more just to get something reliable. As we’ve grown, we’ve also started thinking more about the bigger picture. The transition from Concealment Express to Rounded Gear reflects that. We’re still very much focused on holsters, but we see ourselves as part of a broader everyday carry ecosystem. People who carry a firearm are usually thinking about preparedness in a more general sense—what they carry, how they carry it, and how it fits into their daily life. We want to be a part of that conversation, not just a one-time purchase. That means expanding into other EDC products, building a stronger brand identity, and creating a more cohesive experience for our customers over time. It’s a long-term play, but it’s something we’re excited about. At the end of the day, though, the core of the business hasn’t changed. We make holsters. We make a lot of them. And we put a lot of effort into making sure they’re consistent, reliable, and easy to use. There’s nothing flashy about that, and that’s kind of the point. We’re not trying to reinvent what a holster is—we’re just trying to make a really good version of it, at a scale and price point that makes sense for everyday people. If we can remove friction from the process, help someone feel more confident in their setup, and deliver a product that performs the way it should, then we’ve done our job. That’s what Rounded Gear is all about.
