Mike Berkley, L.Ac., FABORM, and The Berkley Center for Reproductive Wellness Mike Berkley, L.Ac., FABORM, founded The Berkley Center for Reproductive Wellness in New York City in 1997. He was the first acupuncturist in the United States to devote his practice exclusively to the treatment of infertility. With more than 27 years of clinical experience, Berkley has established himself as a leading practitioner in the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with Western reproductive medicine. Berkley is a New York State-licensed acupuncturist and a board-certified herbalist through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). He is also a Fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (FABORM), one of the highest credentials in the field of acupuncture for fertility. His professional background includes graduation from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 1996 and extensive post-graduate training in both TCM gynecology and Western reproductive endocrinology. The Berkley Center, located at 16 East 40th Street in Midtown Manhattan, was the first complementary medicine center in the United States dedicated solely to reproductive health. The practice treats both female and male infertility and provides adjunctive support for patients undergoing assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as IVF and IUI. Clinical Approach: The Berkley Method Berkley developed an integrative diagnostic and treatment protocol known as The Berkley Method. This system combines traditional Chinese medical assessment (pulse and tongue diagnosis, pattern differentiation) with Western laboratory and imaging data (hormone levels, antral follicle count, semen analysis, hysteroscopy findings, etc.). Treatment plans are individualized and typically include: Acupuncture (twice weekly, with pre- and post-embryo transfer sessions available seven days a week) Custom Chinese herbal formulas prepared in-house Nutritional and lifestyle counseling Low-level light therapy (photobiomodulation) for ovarian and testicular function Stress-reduction techniques and mind-body support Berkley places particular emphasis on improving egg and sperm quality, enhancing endometrial receptivity, regulating hormonal balance, and reducing inflammatory markers that can impair implantation. Scope of Practice The center addresses a wide range of reproductive disorders, including: Unexplained infertility Diminished ovarian reserve and advanced maternal age Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) Endometriosis Recurrent pregnancy loss Male factor infertility (low count, motility, morphology) Thin endometrial lining Immunological implantation dysfunction Postpartum depression and anxiety In addition to in-office care, the center offers telemedicine consultations, herbal medicine shipping nationwide, and home-visit acupuncture for patients in the New York metropolitan area. Collaboration with Reproductive Endocrinologists Berkley maintains active referral relationships with many of New York’s major fertility clinics, including NYU Fertility Center, Weill Cornell Medicine, Columbia University Fertility Center, and RMA of New York. Several reproductive endocrinologists have publicly endorsed his work. David Hoffman, MD (IVF Florida Reproductive Associates), has stated that Berkley “possesses a depth of knowledge in reproductive medicine that exceeds that of many practicing reproductive endocrinologists.” Education and Research Contributions Berkley lectures nationally on the integration of acupuncture and herbal medicine with ART. He has appeared on numerous fertility-related podcasts, including The Holistic Fertility Show and AcuPro Academy, and is the author of forthcoming publications on Chinese medical approaches to reproductive disorders. He also serves as a clinical supervisor and mentor to acupuncturists entering the fertility specialty. Patient Outcomes and Recognition While individualized treatment prevents the publication of standardized success rates, patient reviews consistently highlight clinical improvements and successful pregnancies following care at the center. The practice holds a 4.9-star average rating across platforms, including Google, Yelp, and Zocdoc. Many patients report successful outcomes after previous failed IVF cycles elsewhere. Current Practice Details The Berkley Center operates six days per week with extended hours to accommodate IVF transfer schedules. Initial consultations last 90–120 minutes and include a comprehensive review of medical history and prior fertility testing. Treatment duration varies from three months (for natural conception attempts) to ongoing support throughout IVF cycles and early pregnancy. For patients outside New York, Berkley provides virtual case reviews and herbal prescriptions, with local acupuncturists sometimes trained to follow his protocols. Mike Berkley and The Berkley Center for Reproductive Wellness remain at the forefront of evidence-informed complementary fertility care, offering patients a structured, integrative option alongside conventional reproductive medicine.
