At Rockland Daily News, we do things differently—on purpose. While many media outlets chase clicks, we focus on building trust. We’re not here to stir controversy or sensationalize stories. We’re here to inform, serve, and reflect the real heartbeat of Rockland County. That means accurate reporting, thoughtful storytelling, and a relentless commitment to keeping our community connected, empowered, and heard. We’re proudly independent. We’re deeply local. And we believe in putting the reader first—always. Whether we’re covering school board meetings, spotlighting small businesses, or providing real-time updates during emergencies, our goal is simple: Be the most reliable and relevant source of news for the people who live and work in Rockland. We don’t just report on the community. We’re part of it. Our founder, Gilbert Hernandez, was a lifelong resident of Rockland County who noticed a troubling trend: as national news corporations acquired local papers, community journalism was in decline. Stories went untold. Neighborhood issues were ignored. And the voices of real people—families, teachers, business owners, volunteers—were drowned out by noise from outside. Instead of complaining, Gilbert built a solution. Starting with a laptop, a handful of contacts, and a passion for truthful reporting, they launched Rockland Daily News with one core belief: Local news should be written for the locals, by the locals. Today, that vision has evolved into a full-scale newsroom, driven by a team of reporters, editors, photographers, and digital specialists who share a common mission: to serve Rockland County with integrity, accuracy, and heart. What began as a grassroots effort has now evolved into a trusted institution, read daily by thousands. We cover what matters most to Rockland County residents, period. Hyperlocal Coverage: From town halls to traffic changes, school updates to community spotlights, we cover the stories that national outlets won’t touch—and we do it with context, care, and consistency. Breaking News Alerts: When there’s an emergency, people turn to us first. Why? Because we’re fast, accurate, and focused on what’s happening right here, not statewide or across the region. Human Stories: We highlight the unsung heroes—teachers, first responders, small business owners, volunteers, and everyday neighbors making a difference. We believe everyone has a story worth telling. Digital-First Reporting: Our website and social media platforms are designed for speed and ease of use. Whether you’re reading on your phone, tablet, or desktop, you get real news in real time, no paywalls, no fluff. Business Spotlights: We actively support and promote local businesses with in-depth features, Q&As, and special series that give entrepreneurs a platform to shine. Community-Driven Content: We listen. Readers tip us off to stories. They contribute photos. They challenge us—and we respond. This two-way relationship is what makes us different. It’s not just a media outlet. It’s a living dialogue. We’re not trying to be the biggest. We’re trying to be the best. As we grow, our focus stays tight on Rockland County. This means expanding our investigative reporting, launching a podcast, building a more robust events calendar, and introducing additional ways for the community to engage with the news—whether through live Q&As, behind-the-scenes newsletters, or community surveys that inform our coverage. We’re also building new ways to support what we do, from memberships to local sponsorships, all with one mission: Keep Rockland Daily News sustainable, independent, and rooted in the values that got us here in the first place. Because when local journalism thrives, the whole community wins.
