Mastery Martial Arts: Raising the Next Generation of Leaders At Mastery Martial Arts, we believe martial arts is more than just kicks and punches—it’s a proven path to personal transformation. Since 1993, we’ve helped thousands of children, teens, and adults grow into confident, focused, and resilient leaders—both on and off the mat. With 11 locations across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Michigan, our mission is simple yet powerful: to help families raise strong, grounded kids who thrive in life. We’re not your average martial arts school. While other programs focus on physical technique alone, Mastery Martial Arts blends martial arts with leadership training, emotional intelligence, personal development, and parent partnership. Our classrooms are more like coaching labs—where kids not only learn to defend themselves but also how to lead themselves. What Sets Us Apart? What truly sets Mastery Martial Arts apart is how we develop the inner world of each child—their beliefs, identity, emotions, and mindset—while simultaneously training their outer world: body control, coordination, and discipline. We use a unique blend of: Black Belt Martial Arts Curriculum focused on structure, discipline, and skill mastery Leadership Programs that teach public speaking, goal setting, and influence Legacy Programs that turn students into mentors and future instructors Life Skills Curriculum built around values like perseverance, respect, and responsibility Parent Involvement Systems that strengthen the home-to-dojo connection Every student journey is anchored in long-term vision. Our students don’t just “try martial arts”—they grow up with it. From our youngest Tiny Tigers at age 3 to our second-degree black belts and teen mentors, every child is guided step-by-step to become a confident communicator, resilient problem-solver, and admired leader among their peers. Our Founder’s Story: Greg Horton Mastery Martial Arts was founded by Greg Horton, a 6th-degree black belt and nationally recognized coach and educator. After growing up with martial arts as a transformative outlet, Mr. Horton saw firsthand the power it had to shape confidence, direction, and discipline in a child’s life. But as he began teaching, he noticed something deeper: kids didn’t just need to move their bodies—they needed help mastering their minds. And parents didn’t just want an activity—they wanted a partner in raising their children. So he created Mastery Martial Arts: a place where kids could train their focus and emotional control just as much as their forms and sparring. Where parents would feel supported, understood, and empowered in their role. And where staff would become mentors who lead with heart, clarity, and purpose. Three decades later, Greg’s original vision still guides every decision, every curriculum, and every class we teach. Our Impact At Mastery, we don’t measure our success in belts. We measure it in moments: A child raising their hand in class for the first time. A parent telling us their child is finally sleeping through the night without anxiety. A student who used to melt down during setbacks… calmly trying again. A shy kid standing on stage leading a room of peers and parents—proud, strong, and smiling. We live for those moments. Because at the heart of everything we do is this belief: When you change a child’s story of who they are, you change their entire life. And that’s what we do at Mastery Martial Arts—every single day.
