The Healing with ADHD program is a perfect example of how you can move from just surviving to thriving when you work with someone who will really take the time to understand your needs and goals, has the training and experience to create a custom plan, and is realistic about meeting you in a way that works for the logistics of the rest of your life.

If you are tired of feeling overwhelmed, unorganized, ashamed, and unable to “reach your potential,” help is available! When ADHD is not managed, the executive function challenges of procrastination, disorganization, analysis paralysis, and time-blindness will continue to leave you feeling like a “hot mess.” Even worse, the ADHD difficulties of emotion regulation (feeling big feelings hard and fast) will trap you in a pattern of self-defeating negative messages, people-pleasing, and rejection sensitivity.

With over 18 years experience treating ADHD and her own experience living with ADHD, Heather Herman, PMHNP-C gets it. She knows you have already tried all the things that seem to work for everyone else. That’s what makes the Healing with ADHD approach so different. It isn’t designed to force your brain to work like other brains and it definitely isn’t designed to help you mask your symptoms more convincingly. Unlike other approaches to ADHD treatment that look like meds only or another organization system, the Healing with ADHD program is designed to be holistic and ADHD friendly.

There are 3 components of ADHD treatment and unlike any other program available, the Healing with ADHD program provides all 3 components.

1. Comprehensive assessment so you can understand how ADHD symptoms affect you personally. This includes teasing out other mood symptoms that may worsening your ADHD symptoms or mimicking your ADHD symptoms, exploring the role medication may have in your treatment plan, and identifying your specific strengths and needs for skill-building and emotional processing.

2. Skill building so you can make life easier for your brain. The goal is not to work harder. In fact, when your ADHD is managed, you will find you start having more time for the things that matter most-your relationships, hobbies, and special interests.

3. Emotional processing so you can let go of the negative messages you have heard from living with ADHD. You aren’t lazy. You aren’t irresponsible. It isn’t your job to lessen, suppress, or change yourself. Together we will help you start feeling calm and confident.

Excellent care only works if it is available in a way that meets people where they are. Joy Spring Mental Health offers telehealth and in-person appointments as well as virtual self-paced courses. Unlike traditional practices where therapy is scheduled weekly or biweekly for months of years, the Healing with ADHD program is structured to provide group therapy and therapy intensives to help you manage your ADHD faster and more efficiently so you can get on with work of building a life you love.

Group therapy is a very healing part of ADHD treatment. It allows you to connect with other people who get it, provides a safe space to practice and develop skills, share resources with one another, and have accountability. Best of all, group therapy is an affordable way to get the care you need.

Therapy intensives are also customized with the ADHD brain in mind. Traditional therapy of 50 minute sessions where you meet weekly, spend several minutes “checking in” and planning and scheduling your next appointment, typically only leave you with a few minutes of actual processing and can be scattered and unorganized for people with ADHD who end up spending most of their time sharing about their most recent challenge rather than actually doing that will lead to progress and success.

In a therapy intensive, we block a chunk of time (typically 3 hours) to do a deep dive on your ADHD challenges. During your therapy intensive, a variety of evidence based therapy modalities will be used, including trauma and attachment wound processing modalities, as needed depending on your personal goals and needs.

What does this mean for you? Faster recovery, greater clarity and the potential for less time and cost of treatment in the long-run. Why does this matter? ADHD is a costly condition, associated with comorbidities and negative consequences that affect your school, career, relationships, and homelife. You can’t afford to allow your ADHD to go unmanaged or poorly managed and traditional approaches, unlike the Healing with ADHD program, tend to miss critical parts of ADHD management.

Our goal at Joy Spring Mental Health is to make sure the clients who participate in the Healing with ADHD program avoid the negative consequences of ADHD but more than that, we are working to make sure that people with ADHD can have the clarity, capacity, and skills they need to build a life they love!

Without holistic ADHD treatment (Healing with ADHD):
Untreated ADHD can lead to boredom, underperformance, frequent job changes, or unemployment. Patterns of people-pleasing or failure to advocate for your ADHD needs, can lead to overwhelm, exhaustion, and burnout.
Financial difficulties may arise as a result of impulsive spending, poor money management, and missed bill payments, contributing to increased debt and stress.
Individuals with untreated ADHD often experience strained relationships, as difficulties with communication, emotional regulation, and follow-through can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts.
The emotional toll of untreated ADHD can include chronic low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and feelings of failure, exacerbating overall mental health.
Over time, untreated ADHD can contribute to physical health issues, such as poor self-care, lack of routine medical attention, and heightened risk of accidents due to inattention or impulsivity.

With holistic ADHD treatment (Healing with ADHD):
When your ADHD is managed, you will start to understand and lean into your strengths, communicate and advocate for yourself so your needs are met, and finally understand how “being in your zone of genius” is something that you can do and deserve!
This means you will be able to set clear, organized goals and determine how to break down your tasks in a way that works for your brain and gives you the dopamine you need to not only plan but to actually initiate, execute, and follow-through until you have the success you crave!
When challenges happen, your energy wanes, or you make a mistake, you will know how to pinpoint the cause (whether it is ADHD or not), speak kindly to yourself, and restart with intention and self-compassion.
You’ll understand how to do repair work when needed but find that you are spending much more time unmasked, connected to the people you care about, and doing the things that bring value to your life.

What if you aren’t sure you have ADHD? No problem!
During your comprehensive assessment we will review your symptoms, tease out other possible causes, and explore how your symptoms have impacted you from childhood until today. There are several common ways people with ADHD experience the diagnostic process and most of them are not helpful. If you have been curious about ADHD from social media posts that are relatable, been told by others you “are ADHD”, were diagnosed as a child but never given treatment, diagnosed by a child and given medication without any other services, denied assessment as a child, or even worse, had an encounter with another healthcare provider that made you feel shamed, judged, or persecuted, you will love how Healing with ADHD is different!

Here’s what your first appointment will be like:
During your comprehensive assessment, your provider will ask a lot of questions. Some of these will be from evidence-based tools but most of them will be questions that allow you to share your experience, including what you have tried, what has worked, and what has not worked. You won’t be rushed, your provider will help you stay on track, and you will have plenty of time to ask questions about ADHD and share information that you feel is important. This is a relaxed, welcoming appointment. There will be laughter and healing.

During your appointment, we will identify your goals and needs and create a plan to get you on track. You don’t have to worry about taking notes or remembering what is said, you will receive a summary, ADHD resources, and ADHD handouts and guides after your appointment.

Here are just a few common ADHD needs that are often identified when you have a comprehensive assessment. Healing with ADHD is a program designed to address them all in an ADHD friendly way.
