3 Ton Group

3 Ton Group is a video production company based out of Southeastern Wisconsin. We were founded in 2010 by Jon Jamel and Don Rasmussen, who had previously had long careers in the ad agency and TV production worlds. Since 3 Ton’s cameras started rolling over a decade ago, we’ve worked on video productions of almost every shape and size, from large-scale location shoots and creative marketing for TV networks, to internal corporate training videos. Food service, agriculture, industrial, financial, fitness, medical – we’ve had extensive experience in all of these sectors and more.

Our team’s strength is our ability to quickly understand our clients’ individual needs and how best to achieve the goals of their various productions. As a result of this, we excel at flexibility and responsiveness. Our clients know we can be trusted to deliver across all stages of a project, from the planning and pre-production, right down to the delivery of the final files. We know there is no “one size fits all” solution to video production. We customize our production and post-production toolkit to fit each client’s individual project. That means that sometimes we’re going out with a large crew, makeup, craft service, lighting, grip and shooting extensively for several days for a broadcast commercial…but other times a client needs an extremely mobile production team that’s able to capture multiple interviews and b-roll in a small amount of time, but still retain a high production value. Delivering across that spectrum, and offering a range of video solutions to our clients is what we do best.

Below are some of the most common types of videos we work on for our clients, and a bit about how we generally approach each one.

Corporate Video: “Corporate video” is a large umbrella that can cover a lot of different styles of videos. Most of the time, however, these are documentary-style pieces, where the narration comes from interviews conducted with employees. The target audience is usually prospective customers, or potential new hires. The most successful corporate videos feature authentic soundbites from interviewees, who don’t come across as too stilted or scripted, but are genuine and well-informed on the topic. Interviews are coupled with dynamic b-roll of the company, which could be things like and office, or a manufacturing facility.

Training Video: Training videos help streamline the process of teaching new employees about company practices, or help with the onboarding of new hires. Unlike interview-heavy corporate videos, a training video often requires very detailed and specific information that needs to be conveyed. If the person delivering that information is on-camera, often they will read a script from a teleprompter, directly addressing the viewer. B-roll for these videos is often staged to accurately depict certain scenarios or processes. Oftentimes, on-screen text is used to emphasize key messaging and help the viewer retain certain information. We find it is increasingly popular for our clients to use series of training videos to enhance their online training platforms, which can include other elements such as images, quizzes, and other interactive media.

Product Video: Broadly, a product video is made to sell something. This means the product needs to be presented in its best light. Hence, product videos tend to be slightly larger productions, due to the fact that the shooting environment (and the product itself) needs to be tightly controlled. Oftentimes actors are brought in to model or utilize the product, the script is written ahead of time, and a storyboard must be followed to accurately capture the client’s vision.
