Google’s June 2025 core update didn’t set off an unusual wave of search traffic losses in Diib’s data: 2.1% of websites had a sharp drop in Google search visits in the two weeks after it began, at the low end of the 2.1\u20133.1% seen in two-week stretches with no update. The update rolled out from June 30 to July 17, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How search traffic moved after the June 2025 Google algorithm update<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
We compared each site’s visits from unpaid Google search in the 14 days before the update (June 16\u201329) with the 14 days from its start (June 30\u2013July 13). We included 33,934 sites with complete daily data and at least 150 search visits beforehand. A site counted as a drop if its search visits fell 30% or more while its direct visits (people typing the address or using a bookmark) held within 30% of normal. That filters out tracking problems, outages and holiday dips that hit all traffic, such as July 4, which fell inside the rollout. As a baseline, we ran the same test on five update-free periods between April and October 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did the June 2025 core update hit any industry harder?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Not in this data. The typical website kept 101% of its usual search visits, against 96\u2013103% in the update-free periods. No industry with at least 800 sites ran more than about a point above its normal rate or outside its own update-free range. People and society sites were highest at 3.7% (2.7% normally), and law and government sites were at 3.2% (2.1% normally).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sites that did drop mostly stayed down. Of the 718 with complete data, 72% were still down by a quarter or more in days 29\u201342 after the start (July 28\u2013August 10), and 14% were back within 10% of normal. Drops in update-free periods stuck about as often (61\u201373% still down), in line with Diib’s look at recovery after 2026 Google updates<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
