Google released seven search updates in 2026 through early October: a Discover update in February, core updates in March and May, and spam updates in March, June, August and September. Diib looked at how each one lined up with Google search traffic across the websites in its data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For each update, we compared a site’s average daily visits from unpaid Google search in the 14 days before the update started with the 14 days after Google said it finished. The March spam and core updates overlapped, so they’re measured together. The September update didn’t finish until early October, so its “after” period covers the rollout itself (September 24\u2013October 6). Each comparison included roughly 31,000\u201335,000 websites (about 30,000 in the baseline weeks) with connected Google Analytics and at least 10 search visits a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We counted sites that lost half or more of their search visits while visits from everywhere else held within 25% of normal. That filters out tracking problems and general traffic dips. As a baseline, we ran the same test on two stretches of summer weeks with no update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Six of the seven updates look like an ordinary couple of weeks in this data. That doesn’t mean they changed nothing: smaller ranking shifts wouldn’t show up in a test for halved traffic, and Google Analytics may not count all Discover visits as search. September is the clear exception, but timing alone can’t prove the update caused every drop, and the data can’t show which sites Google actually flagged for spam.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Diib compared Google search traffic before and after each of Google’s 2026 search updates.
