On September 24, 2026, Google began rolling out its September 2026 spam update, which applies worldwide and in all languages. Google says the rollout may take up to two weeks. It’s the fourth spam update of 2026, after the March, June and August updates, each of which finished in under three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Spam updates adjust Google’s automated systems for spotting pages that break its spam policies, such as scraped content, hidden text or link schemes. Sites caught by them can rank lower or drop out of results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traffic across the web dipped during the week the update started, including visits people make by typing a website address directly. To separate the update from that general dip, Diib looked at each site’s share<\/em> of visits that came from unpaid Google search. It compared September 24\u201326 with the same days a week earlier, across 32,569 websites with connected Google Analytics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Three days into a rollout that could last two weeks, this is an early read, not a verdict. Some sites that dipped will recover, and some changes may not show up until the rollout finishes.
